Moniquee Alexander, a former UCLA women's basketball player, is now coach at Rolling Hills Prep, and she knows a future Division I player when she sees one. Regan Enright has come on strong during the Southern Section playoffs and has helped her team reach Friday's Division 2A final against Rosary at 2 p.m. at Toyota Arena in Ontario. 'She's a sophomore who has really become a leader on the court and buckled down,' Alexander said. Enright is averaging 21 points and 11 rebounds in the playoffs. Rolling Hills Prep faces a tough challenge against Rosary, which won a Dec. 20 game against the Huskies 65-55. Alexander appreciates Enright's resilience and determination, which will be needed to upset Rosary. … The game of the year in girls' basketball is set for Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at Toyota Arena when two-time defending state champion Etiwanda plays upstart Ontario Christian for the Open Division title. It was a wild Friday night in the Southern Section basketball playoffs. Redondo Union, seeded No. 7 in the Open Division playoffs, pulled out a 77-75 win over No. 3 St. John Bosco in Pool B. Brayden Miner made six of his team's 14 threes and had 18 points. Windward ended the season of Jason Crowe Jr. and Inglewood with a 71-69 road victory in Division 1. JJ Harris scored 25 points and Jeremiah Hampton 17 points. Crowe finished with 29 points. Campbell Hall took down No. 1-seeded Crespi 79-66 in a Division 1 game behind 43 points from Isaiah Johnson, who made 14 of 21 shots. Crean Lutheran went on an 11-0 run after a 57-57 deadlock in the fourth quarter to defeat host Brentwood 62-52 in Division 1. Matt Ciftcikara scored 19 points, Caden Jones had 15 points and Jacob Majok contributed 10 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter. Shalen Sheppard scored 20 points for Brentwood. During 44 years of coaching high school basketball, including four decades at Fairfax, Harvey Kitani has coached the likes of Chris Mills, Sean Higgins, Solomon Hill, Craig Smith, JD Green and others with size and ability. Now he has 6-foot-9 sophomore Nick Welch Jr. at Rolling Hills Prep. 'I think he can be just as good as a lot of those guys,' Kitani said. Rolling Hills Prep is playing at Corona del Mar on Friday in a second-round game of the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs. Welch continues to make steady progress. 'You can't coach height,' Kitani said of what separates players with size. Welch's father, Nick Sr., was a standout at Air Force, earning co-Mountain West Conference player of the year honors in 2004. Nick Jr. is 16 years old and still growing. In 44 years of coaching high school basketball, Harvey Kitani is only getting more active. Seemingly every time his Rolling Hills Prep team is on offense, he calls out a play. Mateo Trujillo, a senior guard, said he started studying Kitani's playbook in eighth grade. 'I was reading it religiously,' he said. Trujillo has the plays down pat. He scored 25 points Wednesday night as Rolling Hills Prep (21-6) opened the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs with a 76-62 win over Marmonte League champion Oaks Christian at North Torrance. Trujillo was so pumped he looked up into the bleachers to wave to his father. Rolling Hills Prep advances to play Corona del Mar on Friday in the second round. Isayah Garcia led Oaks Christian with 25 points. Campbell Hall 82, Chaminade 69: The Vikings won the Division 1 home game. St. Pius X-St. Matthias 61, Bishop Alemany 56: Douglas Langford Jr. scored 15 points for PMA. Los Alamitos 83, Vista Murrieta 74: Samori Guyness had 18 points, Trent Minter 16, Liam Gray 12, Jordan Taylor 11 and West Trevino 10 for Los Alamitos, which hosts Long Beach Poly in the second round.
