PKR re-election sees new division chiefs in Selayang, Jempol and Pasir Salak

KUALA LUMPUR: Today's PKR re-election exercise led to changes in the division chief posts for Selayang in Selangor, Jempol in Negri Sembilan and Pasir Salak in Perak. The Selayang division chief post was won by Rawang assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat, while PKR President's Office political secretary Manivanan Gowin won in Jempol, and Hisamuddin Ali secured victory in Pasir Salak. However, the re-election for the Silam division chief post in Lahad Datu maintained the status quo, with Romansa Lamin retaining his position. According to announcements on the PKR 2025 Election website, Wei Kiat won the Selayang division chief post with 1,945 votes, defeating Wan Ibnul Bahar Wan Ismail, who received 1,693 votes. Another candidate was disqualified from contesting. In today's re-election, 3,647 members cast their votes out of 4,705 eligible voters. In the previous round, Wei Kiat, who is also PKR deputy information chief, lost in a three-cornered fight. For the Jempol division, Manivanan won with 571 votes, defeating Muhammad Asri Abdullah (229 votes) and K. Mariappan (52 votes). During the April 13 election, Azizah Salim Shah had been declared the winner with 450 votes. However, her victory was later nullified by the Party Election Committee after it was discovered that she was still a member of Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) at the time — a violation of PKR's membership rules. In Pasir Salak, a surprise outcome saw Hisamuddin take the division chief post from previous winner Mohamad Yusof Majid. In today's vote, Hisamuddin secured 944 votes, defeating Mohamad Maharani Md Tasi, who is also the Perak Menteri Besar's special officer for the Sungai Manik state constituency, with 677 votes. In Silam, Romansa retained his post after defeating Mohd Syafiq Iqhmal Saharudin (4 votes) and Rubiah Onga (483 votes). Romansa is now entering his third term as Silam division chief since 2018. In the previous April 21 election, Romansa was declared the winner with 445 votes, but the committee called for a re-election after discovering that one of the listed candidates had died. The deceased's name remained in the system, and some voters had cast ballots for him. The Silam PKR Youth chief post was also contested again. Muhammad Firdaus Charlie won narrowly with 144 votes, while his opponent Mohd Syafiq Iqhmal Saharudin received 124 votes. Meanwhile, in Terengganu, Wan Azizah Wan Abas won the re-election for the Besut women's division chief post with 308 votes, defeating Wan Maziah Hussain, who received 271 votes.
