Three goals in three games as progress made with World Cup hopes
OLE Romeny scored the only goal of the game as Indonesia made progress with their hopes of 2026 World Cup qualification with victory at home against China. The Oxford United forward, who joined the U's for a record fee from FC Utrecht in January, netted the crucial winner from the penalty spot at the end of the first half. In doing so, Romeny made it three goals in three matches for Indonesia, having made his international debut in March. Romeny played 89 minutes against China before being withdrawn late on, as Ramadhan Sanata took his place. READ ALSO: Bristol Rovers expert gives verdict on loan of U's striker Australia's 1-0 win at the death at home against Japan earlier in the evening ensured Indonesia were no longer able to secure direct qualification, but they have still booked a fourth round qualification berth. Asia has been allocated eight direct spots to next year's World Cup, and another potential berth via the play-offs. In the third round of qualifying, 18 countries are divided into three groups of six. The group winners and runners-up qualify for the World Cup automatically, while the third and fourth-placed nations make it to the next round of qualifying. Indonesia are fourth in Group C, six points clear of Bahrain and China, with just one match left to play, and travel to group winners Japan for their final game on Tuesday.

Round-up: Mixed success for U's players on international duty
OXFORD United's five players on international duty have completed their fixtures for the March window with mixed success. Ole Romeny no doubt enjoyed the international break the most, scoring two goals in his first two games for Indonesia. After netting on his international debut on Thursday as Indonesia were beaten 5-1 by Australia in a 2026 World Cup qualifier, he then backed that up with a match-winning strike at home to Bahrain. With 24 minutes on the clock, Romeny received a low pass from U's teammate Marselino Ferdinan and produced a first-time right-footed finish from the centre of the penalty box. It proved to be the only goal of the game as Indonesia moved to within a point of third-placed Saudi Arabia in the six-team qualifying group. READ ALSO: Club record buys among those to have played for U's and Boro Ciaron Brown played the full 90 minutes across Northern Ireland's two international friendlies. Friday saw Brown play the full 90 minutes at centre half as Northern Ireland held Switzerland to a 1-1 draw at Windsor Park. A free kick from West Bromwich Albion midfielder Isaac Price gave the hosts the lead after 16 minutes, however Toulouse midfielder Vincent Sierro found a leveller a dozen minutes later. A 5-1 defeat away against Sweden followed in another friendly, with the hosts 2-0 in front at half-time. Three more goals were added after the break via former Watford wide player Ken Sema, Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak and Nottingham Forest attacker Anthony Elanga, before Price managed a late consolation with a minute left on the clock. Wales were 2-1 in front courtesy of goals from Daniel James and Ben Davies when United striker Mark Harris replaced Brennan Johnson after 62 minutes. Rabbi Matondo, who plays for Hannover on loan from Rangers, added the third Wales goal in the 90th minute. Harris was then an unused substitute for the thrilling 1-1 draw in North Macedonia. The hosts took the lead a minute into second half stoppage time through Girona striker Bojan Miovski, however Wales hit back five minutes later via AFC Bournemouth attacker David Brooks. Ben Nelson was an unused substitute on Monday as England's Elite League squad (formerly the Under-20s) drew 2-2 against Switzerland. Former U's loanee Dane Scarlett, who has one goal in five appearances for Tottenham Hotspur since his recall in January, played half an hour from the bench for England. Nelson previously played the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw away to Portugal, a game in which Scarlett gave England the lead after seven minutes, but Portugal hit back through Leeds United youngster Diogo Monteiro just after half an hour had been played.

U's battle to impressive point at play-off hopeful Canaries
OXFORD United battled to an impressive point at a Norwich City side with aspirations of reaching the Sky Bet Championship play-offs. Josh Sargent gave the Canaries the lead with just five minutes on the clock as he finished from close range from a right wing cross, but Mark Harris grabbed a leveller 13 minutes later when he poked in from a couple of yards out after a long throw from Will Vaulks wasn't dealt with by the hosts. Gary Rowett made two changes to the side which lost 3-2 a home to Coventry City, as Hidde ter Avest and Alex Matos came into the starting line-up in place of Peter Kioso and Tyler Goodrham. There was also a change in shape for United, with Rowett switching to a 3-5-2 set-up which saw ter Avest and Przemyslaw Placheta as the wing backs, with Ole Romeny and Harris up front together. As for the hosts, the headline news was that due to injuries, third choice goalkeeper Vicente Reyes was between the posts for his Canaries debut. The U's had a sight of goal inside the opening 60 seconds, as Romeny bent a left-footed strike into the gloves of Reyes from inside the penalty box. But with five minutes on the clock, the Canaries took the lead. The questionable part of United's set-up was how Placheta would fare as the left wing back, and it was down his side that Canaries right back Kellen Fisher crossed for Sargent to tap in from close range. Two minutes later, Ciaron Brown swung in a teasing cross which narrowly evaded both Harris and then Romeny. The U's did grab a leveller though after 18 minutes, as a long throw-in hurled in by Vaulks caused problems in the Canaries penalty box, allowing Harris to scrap in a couple of yards for his first goal since Boxing Day. Another long throw-in via Vaulks from an almost identical area won United a corner six minutes later, while Borja Sainz was unable to stretch enough and make contact with Jacob Wright's clever ball from deep. Two minutes before the break, Sargent had the ball in the back of the net again, but this time the offside flag went up against him. Soon into the second period, Sainz sent a wild effort flying over the crossbar after a corner landed at his feet outside the penalty box. The Canaries were closer to going back in front when a left wing cross wasn't dealt with by the U's, and Ante Crnac sent the loose ball into the gloves of Jamie Cumming. At the other end, United probably should've worked a better opportunity for themselves when Harris got into the right channel of the penalty area, however Romeny wasn't able to make contact with his strike partner's cutback. Rowett made his first alterations with 63 minutes on the clock, as Matt Phillips and Ruben Rodrigues replaced Placheta and Romeny respectively. Crnac then tested Cumming again, this time by cutting onto his left foot and firing a stinging effort which Cumming fisted over. Rowett made another double substitution with eight minutes to go, as Sam Long and Idris El Mizouni came on for ter Avest and Matos respectively. In the closing stages, the U's frustrated the home crowd by taking their time with goal kicks and free kicks in defensive situations, and effectively ran down the clock at Carrow Road. In the last minute, United needed Cumming to stretch out a leg and make a fantastic save after Sainz found himself in space down the left channel of the box. Four additional minutes were signalled, but the U's saw them out amid some heavy Canaries pressure to ensure a hard-earned point was collected. Norwich City (4-3-3): Reyes; Fisher, Doyle, Cordoba, Stacey (Marcondes 82); Wright (Hernandez 72), Sorensen, Ben Slimane (McLean 63); Crnac (Schwartau 82), Sargent, Sainz. Unused subs: Barden, Duffy, McConville, Djedje, Myles. Booked: None. Oxford United (3-5-2): Cumming; Helik, Moore, Brown; ter Avest (Long 82), Matos (El Mizouni 82), Vaulks, Brannagan, Placheta (Phillips 63); Romeny (Rodrigues 63), Harris (Mills 88). 'I came here to score goals'
Oxford United striker Ole Romeny says he knows he "needs to score goals" following his big-money move to the club in the January window. The 24-year-old joined the U's from Dutch top-flight club Utrecht for a fee understood to be a club record and made his full debut in Saturday's 2-0 Championship defeat by West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns. "I'm really happy to start. I felt good. Of course, I want to play every game," Romeny told BBC Radio Oxford. "I came here to play and to be important for the team and that's the only thing I care about. I need to score goals. "There's always pressure. Everywhere you play. I enjoy my football so I don't really think about all those other things." Romeny, who made four appearances from the bench prior to the trip to Albion, said he doesn't feel the weight of expectation despite his price tag, adding: "there's always pressure - everywhere you play - I don't really think about all those things". He has no problem with being the lone target man in games under boss Gary Rowett, a system that can leave him looking isolated at times, especially away from home. "You need to be strong, keep the ball and be a rest point for the team and I think I can do that," Romeny said. "I'm comfortable on the ball and like it at my feet so it suits me." Romeny echoed Rowett's views that Oxford needed to be "more clinical", adding that they "were lacking a bit of communication" against the play-off chasing Baggies but said they "need to stay positive". United take on another promotion candidate in Coventry City on Saturday with their nine-game unbeaten run at the start of Rowett's reign just after Christmas providing them with an eight point cushion above the relegation zone. Romeny said they are "not focusing" on the table instead "giving everything every game to try to win - you cannot do more than that".
