Wisconsin women's basketball transfer guard withdraws from portal, returns to Badgers

Wisconsin women's basketball transfer guard withdraws from portal, returns to Badgers Wisconsin women's basketball guard Ronnie Porter withdrew her name from the transfer portal and will return to the Badgers for the 2025-26 season, as first reported by On3's Talia Goodman. Porter previously entered the portal after three seasons with the program. She played a minor role as a freshman in 2022-23, averaging 6.8 minutes, 1.5 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game over 27 appearances. The guard then broke out as a major contributor as a sophomore in 2023-24, starting all 32 games and averaging 35 minutes, 10.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists. Those tallies earned her a Big Ten Honorable Mention distinction at the season's end. Porter continued that strong play this past season, starting all 29 games and averaging 8.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 5.1 assists. The rising senior now returns to the lineup for a final year of eligibility. The veteran's return to the program is major news for coach Robin Pingeton as she works to rebuild the Badgers' roster. The new coach has landed four transfers to date: Missouri State guard Kyrah Daniels, Howard guard Destiny Howell, NC State guard Laci Steele and Southern Illinois forward Gift Uchenna. Porter's return now brings the total of impact additions, portal or otherwise, to five. Pingeton is looking to lead Wisconsin to its first winning season since 2010-11 and its first NCAA Tournament since 2010. The veteran coach previously spent 15 years at Missouri, where she made four consecutive tournaments from 2016-19. Her program had struggled over the past few seasons, however, with a 25-37 record since its last winning season in 2022-23. Recapping Wisconsin women's basketball's recent transfer portal activity

The Wisconsin women's basketball program experienced another round of transfer departures this past week. The movement began when superstar forward Serah Williams and center Carter McCray elected to each enter the transfer portal on March 12. The two combined for nearly half of Wisconsin's scoring production during the 2024-25 season, departing after a campaign that included a 13-17 overall record and 4-14 mark in Big Ten play. Since then, Wisconsin freshman guard Gracie Grzesk, junior guard Ronnie Porter, sophomore forward Tessa Grady and sophomore guard D'Yanis Jimenez have all joined Williams and McCray in the portal. Grzesk, who saw limited action in one year with the Badgers, committed to Green Bay on Sunday. Of those four recent entrants, Porter's departure is the most notable. The 2024 Big Ten Honorable Mention guard started in all 29 contests for the Badgers during the 2024-25 season, averaging 8.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 5.1 assists in 32.6 minutes of action per appearance. Porter also registered 10.6 points, 5.5 boards and 4.1 assists per game as a sophomore in 2023-24, an indication of her talent and ceiling. Both Grady and Jimenez played bench roles for the 2024-25 Badgers. Both averaged under two points per game in limited playing time. BREAKING: Wisconsin's Ronnie Porter has entered the transfer portal, she told @On3sports. The 5-4 junior averaged 8.6 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 5.1 apg and 1.6 spg last season. TRACKER: — Talia Goodman (@TaliaGoodmanWBB) March 18, 2025 The Badgers have seen nine players depart after the conclusion of the 2024-25 season, six via the portal and three to graduation. McCray, Williams and Porter accompanied guards Tess Myers and Natalie Leuzinger in the starting lineup. Both Myers and Leuzinger were celebrated on senior day, meaning Wisconsin's entire starting five will look different when the team takes the court for the 2025-26 season. Not to mention, former head coach Marisa Moseley resigned after the season's conclusion. Athletic director Chris McIntosh is now tasked with filling that vacancy. Once McIntosh hires a new coach, expect the Badgers to begin their transfer pursuits. UW declined a bid to participate in the WNIT following a tumultuous season. As of March 24, Wisconsin rosters just two veterans -- senior guard Lily Krahn and junior guard Leena Patibandla.
