Full road closures and timings announced ahead of Roon the Toon

Kilmarnock's popular Roon the Toon 10k road race returns this weekend. Kilmarnock 's popular Roon the Toon 10k road race returns on Sunday, June 8 and organisers are confident of another successful event. Starting from the Ayrshire Athletics Arena, runners will follow a mostly flat course around Kilmarnock town centre before returning to the arena to cross the finish line. Several roads will be closed from 9am until 12 noon for the event and there will be no access to the electric vehicle charging hub at the athletics arena. Entries for the race have now closed and over 2,000 people are expected to take part. Everyone who finishes the race will be presented with a t-shirt, a great race medal and the "best value goody bag anywhere" which includes a free ticket to a Kilmarnock FC home game. In addition to the footrace, Roon the Toon also features a wheelchair race and a stroller roll for entrants pushing prams, buggies or wheelchairs. A post-race party is being held at the Park Hotel with a free pint, prosecco or fruit juice on offer alongside the "heavily discounted" buffet. Any competitor who has completed five Roon the Toons will also qualify for a unique bonus sweatshirt/hoodie which can be claimed by emailing admin@ within two weeks of completing race five. East Ayrshire Council, Ayrshire Roads Alliance and East Ayrshire Leisure. The full course follows Queens Drive, Welbeck Street, Old Mill Road, Fowlds Street, St Marnock Street, Dundonald Road, Holmes Road, the U34, Dundonald Road, John Finnie Street, West George Street, Portland Street, The Cross and King Street before rejoining the home stretch at Fowlds Street and onto Old Mill Road, Welbeck Street, Queens Drive and back to the Ayrshire Athletics Arena. East Ayrshire Leisure appealing for volunteers to help upcoming running events

Volutneers are needed for four events set to take place in the coming months. East Ayrshire Leisure are appealing for volunteers to help support a series of running events in the coming months. Four popular events are set to take place between June and September, but they rely on the support of local volunteers to help ensure a safe and welcoming experience for both participants and spectators. ‌ The first event, Roon the Toon, takes place on Sunday, June 8 starting at the Ayrshire Athletics Arena in Kilmarnock. ‌ Volunteers are needed between 8.30am and 12pm to assist with crowd movement and provide a warm welcome to runners and visitors. Additional events in the calendar include: • Cairn Table Hill Race – Wednesday, July 16, Cairn Table, 6–9pm (approx.), Muirkirk • K6 and K12 Ultramarathons – Sunday, August 3, Dean Castle Country Park, various times • River Ayr Way Ultramarathon – Saturday, September 13, from Muirkirk to Ayr, various times Volunteer roles vary by event and may include marshalling, supporting water stops, and helping to maintain course safety. No prior experience is required, and full guidance will be provided.
