Roper St. Francis launches campaign for healthcare in the Lowcountry

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The Roper St. Francis Foundation launched a new $100 million campaign over the weekend to transform healthcare in the Lowcountry. The foundation announced the $100 million Imagine campaign, a fundraising initiative for healthcare that will run through 2030. Roper St. Francis said more than 550 donors and supporters gathered for the annual Roper Xavier Society Celebration on Saturday. Celebrating the launch and a historic $20 million lead gift from the Medical Society of South Carolina, the second largest donation to a healthcare system in the Lowcountry. 'We are incredibly proud to support the Roper St. Francis Foundation with the largest philanthropic gift in our history,' said Medical Society of South Carolina CEO Charles F. Rivers III. 'This monumental contribution is a reflection of our belief in the incredible work being done through the Imagine campaign. We firmly believe in Roper St. Francis Healthcare`s ability to transform healthcare in the Lowcountry, and we are honored to be part of this effort to enhance the health and well-being of our community for years to come.' Officials say the effort will help the organization advance key initiatives of the Roper St. Francis Healthcare 2030 Strategic Plan and address the Charleston region's growing clinical needs. CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Roper St. Francis Healthcare awarded $400,000 to local organizations aimed to expand access to healthcare and overall well-being in the Lowcountry. Roper St. Francis will provide grants to 56 local organizations through its Community Investment Program. On Thursday, February 13, Roper will host a breakfast to present the grants to these organizations. 'These grants are part of Roper St. Francis Healthcare's continued commitment to enhancing the health and quality of life for residents in the region,' said Roper St. Francis officials. 'Through these donations, the healthcare system is helping local organizations reach the community's most vulnerable populations, especially those who face barriers to healthcare and wellness resources.' According to Roper St. Francis, its Community Investment Program focuses on supporting organizations that work to address the community's prioritized healthcare needs. Roper's says its 2030 strategic plan aims to expand access to healthcare for historically marginalized communities, ensuring that more individuals can benefit from essential health and wellness services. North Charleston mayor details how he hopes to strengthen community during ‘State of the City'

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Thursday night, North Charleston Mayor Reggie Burgess delivered the 2025 'State of the City' address focusing on how he can grow the the address, Mayor Burgess spoke about economic development, community relations and strengthening North Charleston's overall position. He reflected on the progress the city has made in the past year.'We're bringing crime down, we're improving infrastructure, and we're all the places everyone wants to come,' said Mayor Burgess. North Charleston has worked to create affordable and workforce housing. The mayor says in the next year they will continue to update zoning and build infrastructure to create more housing in the city. He spoke about the city's economic development, citing the 650 millions dollar total valuation in construction projects. Burgess cited Roper St. Francis Healthcare opening a new medical campus, Boeing's billion dollar investment at the airport and the South Carolina Port's work on the former naval base as examples of the cities economic achievement. His goal for the next year is to put North Charleston on the map as a place for South Carolinians to live. 'How North Charleston looks, that's the number one thing I'm working on: image. That's why you see my team cleaning out the city, my law enforcement officers working to get folks who can't live peaceful its a place for them to go , all the other departments working to establish better living opportunities, education and most of all economic engine,' said Burgess.
