Notre Dame baseball upset in ACC Tournament casting doubt on its NCAA Tournament hopes

Notre Dame baseball upset in ACC Tournament casting doubt on its NCAA Tournament hopes For the third time in four games, Notre Dame baseball fell to Boston College, this one being the toughest one to swallow. The Irish are fighting for a spot in the NCAA Tournament, but this 5-4 loss throws a wrench into the situation. Had Notre Dame prevailed, they would have gotten another solid victory and pushed the committee to include them in the field. Now, they'll have to wait and see. Starting pitcher Rory Fox gave it his all, going six innings while allowing 4 runs with nine strikeouts. Reliever Ricky Reeth pitched two clean innings, but Tobey McDonough couldn't keep the Eagles off the scoreboard in the top of the tenth. Shortstop Estevan Moreno hit a homer and scored two runs, while outfielder Jared Zimbardo had three hits. The Irish ended the regular season with a 32-21 record. Notre Dame will now have to wait and see how the rest of this week plays out, as they'll hope their season hasn't come to an end. They'll find out their fate on Sunday afternoon.

Multiple Notre Dame baseball players earn All-ACC honors

Multiple Notre Dame baseball players earn All-ACC honors Notre Dame baseball had a pretty good season this spring, as they ended the regular season with a 32-20 record, 14-16 in ACC play. While the Irish are the No. 11 seed in the conference tournament, there were multiple players that stood out this season, and on Monday they were rewarded by the ACC for their play. Catcher Carson Tinney was named to the first-team, and also got more national recognition on top of what he earned last week. He was named as a semifinalist for the Buster Posey Award, going out to the top catcher in the country. The sophomore hit 17 home runs, had 53 RBI and scored 51 runs on the year. While he was the only Notre Dame player to make the first-team, two starting pitchers made third-team All-ACC in Rory Fox and Jack Radel. Each of them played a huge part in the Irish's success this year, and hopefully that doesn't end later today. Fox led the team in ERA with a 3.34 mark, with Radel just behind him at 3.58. Freshman outfielder Bino Watters made the conference All-Freshman team, after hitting .317 with 9 home runs and 38 RBI. The future is bring for the Irish, considering how young they were this season, and the talent that returns. Hopefully this was the stepping stone they needed to make a much bigger splash in the conference and nationally next season. Congrats to all four of the Notre Dame baseball players who were honored by the ACC.

Notre Dame baseball salvages weekend with a Sunday road victory over No. 10 Clemson It looked on paper like it was going to be a tough matchup for Notre Dame baseball this weekend as they traveled to No. 10 Clemson Tigers this weekend, but the series wasn't a complete lost cause. The Irish dropped the first two games of the series, and on Sunday were put in a position to get swept by their ACC opponent, but Notre Dame wouldn't let them have their way. The bats came alive early, as the visitors scored 3 runs in the top of the first, and added two more in the top of the fourth. Starter Rory Fox would give up a run in the bottom of the fourth, but the Irish had the momentum and won the game 7-3. Offensively, outfielder Jared Zimbardo and shortstop Estevan Moreno each had two RBI. Both relievers Ricky Reeth and Tobey McDonough pitched clean innings, while Chase Van Ameyde did give up two runs. The win puts Notre Dame's season record at 11-6. They will resume play on Tuesday, as they finally get the home portion of the schedule started as they host the Butler Bulldogs.
