Arena Authority board moves to send out RFPs for solicitorship contract
Feb. 12—WILKES-BARRE TWP. — The Luzerne County Convention Center Authority on Wednesday approved a motion to send out request proposals for its solicitorship contract.
In December, the board decided to seek the proposals and Wednesday's action puts the plan in action.
Rosenn Jenkins & Greenwald currently holds the contract and has for 27 years. The board felt that it would be "good business" to advertise for proposals.
Board member Robert Mehalick made the motion in December to seek the RFPs, stating he suggested the move as a matter of good business and for no other reason.
At Wednesday's meeting, several board members felt that the authority should seek RFPs on all contracts for services, and the board agreed.
Rosenn Jenkins & Greenwald will continue in the solicitorship role until the process is completed.
Steve Poremba, ASM Global's General Manager at the arena, reported that the organization's nonprofit concession stand program contributed more than $174,000 to support seven local nonprofit organizations throughout 2024 — showcasing the venue's commitment to giving back and strengthening the Northeastern Pennsylvania community.
As part of an annual community-driven initiative, Poremba said SAVOR — Mohegan Arena's food and beverage concessionaire and culinary division of ASM Global — provided opportunities for area nonprofits to operate concession stands during events at the arena.
In return, a portion of the proceeds from each stand at the ASM Global-managed venue supported these organizations' missions, helping them make a positive impact in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
The seven participating nonprofits represent a number of causes tailored toward youth development and community sports programs. Through their efforts, these organizations not only raised vital funds, but also connected with thousands of event attendees, showcasing the importance of their work.
In January, the board elected Patrick Patte Jr. as board chair; Lori Spencer, vice chair; Donna Cupinski, secretary; and John Ruckno, treasurer.
