Huntsville announces warming center openings ahead of cold weather this week
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The City of Huntsville has announced that warming shelters will be opening as temperatures look to get dangerously cold this week.
With temperatures looking to drop into the teens overnight Wednesday and Thursday according to the National Weather Service, the city has announced several warming shelters will be open later this week.

Those warming centers are:
Community Warming Center – The Livin' Room at 2820 Governors Drive SW: Open Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 4 p.m. to Friday, Feb. 21, at 9 a.m. You can contact Community Development at 256-427-5400 or email Rosie Veal-Eby, Church of the Nativity, at rvealeby@ for inquiries about the warming center.
First Stop at 206 Stokes St.: Open overnight Wednesday and Thursday nights in addition to regular hours Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. You can call 256-533-3391 to contact them.
Downtown Rescue Mission at 1400 Evangel Drive NW: Open 24/7, and their phone number is 256-536-2441.
Salvation Army at 305 Seminole Drive SW: Open Monday-Sunday, 6 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. To contact the Salvation Army about the warming center, call 256-536-9147.
The city said Huntsville Transit will provide free rides to and from warming centers. Transit runs Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Officials said Huntsville Police will also take people to the warming centers outside of Huntsville Transit hours. To request a call just call HPD's non-emergency line at 256-722-7100.
