‘Early to be losing your rag' – Commentator blasts darts star as he has MELTDOWN in just second leg
DARTS star Matt Campbell lost his temper and angrily threw at the board after busting his score. The 35-year-old had an early meltdown in his first round European Tour 8 clash against Alan Soutar. 1 Campbell was one leg up and had the perfect chance to extend his lead, requiring just 24. But he got his throw at the double 12 horribly wrong and it landed in nine. The Canadian was then left with 15 and he eyed up the three. But once again, his dart was a disaster and it fell into the neighbouring 17 to bust his score. A furious Campbell then chucked his final arrow at the board in a fit of rage to leave commentator Dan Dawson shocked. He said: "Wow. Well, you can understand why he is annoyed. But it's quite early on to be losing your rag isn't? Leg two." Fans reacted: "I love it when something like this happens as it makes me feel less s*** about how bad I am at darts." Another added: "Campbell is like us, professional players are human beings." Soutar made the most of the nightmare leg, stepping up and levelling the score at 1-1. But Campbell composed himself and went on to win 6-4. He faces Ross Smith in the second round in Leverkusen, Germany tomorrow. Stephen Bunting, Gary Anderson, Peter Wright, Nathan Aspinall, Jonny Clayton, Chris Dobey and Damon Heta are the biggest names in the competition.

Hawke's Bay police fear more injuries from dirt bikes used illegally on footpaths
(File) Hawke's Bay police fear an increase in people riding dirt bikes illegally on roads and footpaths will result in more injuries. Photo: Supplied / NZ police Hawke's Bay police fear an increase in kids riding dirt bikes illegally on roads and footpaths will result in more people being seriously injured. Last week an eight-year-old child suffered a broken bone in his leg after being hit by a bike in Flaxmere, and a woman was struck by a bike outside a cafe in Hastings resulting moderate injuries. The two young dirt bike riders who hit the woman received critical and serious injuries. Senior Sergeant Ross Smith told RNZ he's worried there will be more accidents. "If we don't start taking some sort of positive action this behaviour will only increase and no doubt there will be other people injured and hurt as a result of that," he said. Smith said the behaviour was "dangerous, and frankly stupid", and the riders were of all ages. "Some of the riders are as young as 10 or 12-years-old, right through to young adults and adults. They are riding the bikes at speed and are not wearing crash helmets or any safety gear. "They are putting themselves at risk as well as a whole [lot] of people in our community," he said. The riders were using dirt bikes illegally on roads, footpaths and parks, mainly in the Flaxmere and Camberley areas. Police said the motorbikes were often unregistered, not warranted and some were in poor condition and not road worthy. "These riders have little regard for other road users, pedestrians or families using the parks. And the public are paying the price," said Smith. Hawke's Bay police are urging the public to report any unlawful dirt bike riding, to try and prevent further injuries. "When police are involved the riders then ride in a manner that's even more dangerous to the public and themselves so it makes it very difficult for us to contain this type of behaviour," he said. Senior Sergeant Smith told RNZ police will take enforcement action when necessary, but need the public to help track down the riders. "The police can't solve this without the community's help. We need to know where these bikes are going to, the addresses, or where they are coming from. "Any videos, photos or dash cam foootage of these people and dirt bikes can be sent to police anonymously," said Smith. People who witness any of this kind of behaviour can report it to police on 111 if it is happening now, or through if it is after the fact. Smith said police are unsure why they are seeing an increase in dangerous and illegal dirt bike riding in Hawke's Bay roads, but believe it is a trend amongst younger people that they are copying from other regions and cities. "We are also urging parents of children who use dirt bikes to make sure they do so in a safe way, otherwise more people will get hurt," he said. Boy recovering at home after being hit by a dirt bike in Flaxmere
The father said he was relieved to see his son getting well, though the timeframe for the full recovery is uncertain. 'He is a very active kid.' Since returning home, he said he was happy he 'has not heard one single dirt bike'. 'Those need to stop.' He said he hasn't received any updates from the police yet. Police said a USB, with content regarding the incident, was dropped off at the station on Wednesday afternoon, but no arrests have been made yet. A local resident who shared footage she had of the incident with police told Hawke's Bay Today she heard the boy screaming moments after hearing two dirt bikes circling the neighbourhood. 'I have security cameras at my house, and my security camera faces down the way that little boy got hurt,' she said. 'I actually didn't see him get hurt, but I heard him screaming. I also heard the motorbikes go around our roads a couple of times, because they do it all the time.' The incident is one of two recent crashes involving dirt bikes in Hawke's Bay. Senior Sergeant Ross Smith said police continued to deal with dangerous dirt bike use across Flaxmere and Camberley. 'There continues to be ongoing issues with people of all ages riding dirt bikes illegally on roads, footpaths, and parks,' he said. 'Riders are not wearing helmets or robust safety clothing.' He called the behaviour 'dangerous, and frankly stupid', referencing both the Flaxmere crash and another one in Hastings that happened in April, where a woman was hit by a dirt bike outside a cafe, causing moderate injuries, while the two young riders received critical and serious injuries. Police said riders are often unlicensed, wearing no safety gear, and the bikes are frequently unregistered or in poor condition. 'These riders have little regard for other road users, pedestrians or families using the parks, and the public are paying the price,' Smith says. 'We are also urging parents of children who use dirt bikes to make sure they do so in a safe way, otherwise more people will get hurt.' Police said they are prepared to take enforcement action when necessary. They are asking residents to report any dangerous riding, calling 111 at the time or submitting reports and footage online at Information can also be provided anonymously.

Smith throws two nine-darters before final whitewash
Ross Smith demolished Brendan Dolan 8-0 to win the 16th Players Championship of the year - having thrown two nine-darters on the way to the final. Englishman Smith, 36, had reached the final Hildesheim, Germany, with a scintillating run as he won 16 legs on the spin. He is just the third player, alongside Michael van Gerwen and Phil Taylor, to land multiple nine-darters in the same Players Championship event. The final was a formality as Smith notched up an average of 104.56 and whitewashed 51-year-old Northern Irishman Dolan. "I don't actually feel I've played that well - sometimes luck is on your side," Smith told the PDC. "I want to win all the time. I will keep working hard to win another major event." World number one Luke Humphries, world champion Luke Littler and Van Gerwen were among the players to give the event a miss. There are 34 Players Championship events across the year, with the competition's finals held in Minehead in November.
