Rod Run, Rossini Fest & construction impacting East Tennessee roads: What to know

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — From Rod Run to Rossini Fest, several events are impacting East Tennessee drivers on top of ongoing construction across the region. 6 News anchor Bo Williams is breaking down what to know before hitting the roads this weekend. The 2025 Spring Rod Run began on April 10 and will run through April 13. The Pigeon Forge Police Department is urged to prepare for heavy traffic congestion. The show is at the LeConte Center, however, traffic will spill over to primary, secondary, and tertiary roads. The Old Mill Bridge closure is also impacting traffic as Old Mill Avenue cannot be used to get to and/from the Parkway. What's happening this weekend? Multiple events coming to East Tennessee In Knoxville, the Rossini Festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday. The event covers downtown with stages on Market Square, Union Avenue, Church Street and Clinch Avenue. The Orange and White Game is also set for Saturday at Neyland Stadium. The Tennessee Department of Transportation has issued its weekly construction report for April 11 through April 16, detailing ongoing and upcoming construction activities. This report includes information about lane closures and road work across 24 East Tennessee counties. As a result, temporary road closures are expected around the stadium as they prepare for Opening Day. KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — 6 News is hosting Free Shred Day on Saturday, May 3. This event will allow the community to dispose of sensitive personal documents for free. It will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at the 6 News studio parking lot, located at 1306 North Broadway in Knoxville. Rossini Festival returns for 2025: What to know Shredding unwanted paperwork is essential for protecting personal information from falling into the wrong hands. It's recommended by the Tennessee Highway Patrol that any documents containing personal identifying information be shredded once they no longer need. Items to consider shredding include: Credit card applications Tax documents Bank statements Retirement information Receipts Insurance records Old pay stubs Junk mail Each vehicle is permitted to bring up to three small boxes of paper for shredding. After the documents have been securely disposed of, the boxes will be returned. Multiple trips are allowed for vehicles with more than three boxes. Repairs to historic Old Mill Bridge in Pigeon Forge facing delays To participate, come to the 6 News studio parking lot at 1306 North Broadway, where signs and volunteers will guide you. 6 News staff members will assist in taking your boxes without requiring you to exit your vehicle. (WATE)—The Rossini Festival is returning to Knoxville for its 22nd year on Saturday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, April 13, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Each year, the festival draws thousands of people to Knoxville to celebrate the global impact on the music, food, and culture of East Tennessee. The free event, presented by Knoxville Opera, is an annual International Street Fair featuring more than 75 artisans, food vendors and four outdoor stages. Saturday rate for Market Square Garage begins under new Downtown Knoxville parking plan The outdoor stages will be set up on Market Square, Union Avenue, Church Street and Clinch Avenue. Knoxville Arts Districts looking to make list of Best in the U.S. for a third year in a row

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — For the last two years, Knoxville has been named to USA Today's 10 Best Arts Districts list and this year, it's looking to be featured once again. Every year, USA Today holds its 10 Best Readers' Choice lists, allowing people from across the country to vote for their favorite places to travel, including for the best museums, beer scenes, and cruises. Dolly Parton to debut musical at in Nashville at Belmont University This year, Knoxville's Arts District is up against 19 other cities, including Portland, Oregon; New Orleans, Louisiana; and Los Angeles, California for a place in the 10 Best Arts Districts List. Memphis, Tennessee also made the list of nominees. When talking about Knoxville's Arts District, many may think of the galleries in downtown Knoxville, and the First Friday Art Walks, but the district is also known for open air markets in Market Square and the Old City, in addition to the artistic talents of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, Knoxville Opera, Knoxville Jazz Orchestra, an official poet laureate each year, theater companies and dance studios. Along with the these, Knoxville is also home to several annual festivals and events highlighting the arts including the Rossini Festival, Big Ears Festival, and the Dogwood Chalk Walk.
