Jimmie Johnson's new NASCAR crew chief for 2025 Daytona 500 revealed
Jimmie Johnson's new NASCAR crew chief for the 2025 Daytona 500 has been revealed. According to NASCAR's Roster Portal, Chad Johnston will serve as the crew chief for Johnson and the No. 84 team at the 2025 Daytona 500. In November 2024, Johnston signed with Legacy Motor Club as the new Manager of Race Engineering.
The former Stewart-Haas Racing crew chief spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons with Ryan Preece, earning two top-5 finishes and seven top-10 finishes in 72 starts. Johnston earned his first of seven NASCAR Cup Series victories with Martin Truex Jr. in 2013. The best year for Johnston came in 2017, as Kyle Larson won four races.
Now, Johnston will serve as Johnson's crew chief in the Great American Race on February 16 at Daytona International Speedway. The seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion must make the 2025 Daytona 500 through qualifying or the duels, and Johnston hopes to bring him a fast No. 84 car in one week.
