Garden party takes place at the restored Battles White House
A historic West County home is being brought back to life and Tuesday night played host to a special event.
More than 300 women were expected at the Women Creating a Legacy garden party at the Battles White House in Girard.
Picking up the pieces — Community shows up to support tornado victims
It was a night to honor Charlotte Battles and financially support the $250,000 restoration of the home.
Charlotte was a bank CEO and philanthropist whose father built the Battles White House in Girard in 1861.
Extensive restoration began in 2024, but the job is not done.

'Phase two, we still have some work to do including the two antique cars,' said Caleb Pifer of the Hagen History Center. 'So, there's a 1931 LaSalle and a very rare 1942 Cadillac, both purchased at Roth Cadillac, the oldest Cadillac dealership in the United States.'
Women Creating a Legacy was the first group invited to see the restored homestead.
