ODOT introduces $2B road improvement project for U.S. 23 north of Columbus
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A major construction project is in the early stages along the U.S. Route 23 corridor north of Columbus.
This $2 billion plan, Route 23 Connect, includes a series of projects for improvements to US-23 between Waldo and Interstate 270. The goal is to preserve and strengthen the highway by increasing capacity, reducing the number of traffic lights, adding interchanges and building overpasses.
Ohio Department of Transportation project manager Jordan Whisler said congestion and safety risks would only worsen in the coming years if not for this project.

'The US-23 corridor north of Columbus has experienced significant development pressures over the last few decades decreasing the speed and reliability of the connection between Toledo and Columbus as well as Sandusky and Columbus,' said Whisler.
The timeline for construction on these projects is undetermined. The next phase is to gather public input this spring, focusing on plans to improve the US-23/State Route 229 and US-23/Coover Road intersections.
