New Mexico offering Route 66 Centennial celebration grants
NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – For the second year the New Mexico Tourism Department is offering communities an opportunity to invest in special events and improvements for the upcoming 100th anniversary of Route 66. The Route 66 Centennial Grant Program started in 2024 and resulted in $1.5 million on grants awarded to nine communities.

The department is offering grants to support events, experiences, infrastructure, destination enhancements and marketing campaigns that related to Route 66 and New Mexico's role in its history. Nonprofits, cities, counties, tribal governments and special districts are eligible to apply for a grant. Applicants for the special events option of the grant must show how their projects promote the centennial, supports visitation, is tied to the history or is along the route. Infrastructure or enhancement grants must have a connection to Route 66 and be located withing a community along the route.
