RIAT 2025: Call for air show memories to mark 40th anniversary

Visitors to a popular air show are being asked to help build a memory wall to mark its 40th Royal Air Force Charitable Trust wants people to submit pictures and stories of moments they have enjoyed at the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) over the last four of people attend the annual event every year at RAF Fairford, in Gloucestershire, where hundreds of aircraft are hosted from around the Cheevers, head of marketing and communications at RIAT, said the wall would bring memories "to life". RIAT is one of the biggest military air shows in the world, hosting the latest technology in aviation, with previous displays from the Red Arrows and Concorde, as well as celebrity appearances from the likes of Hollywood film star Tom Cruise and the royal October 2024 organisers said more than 20,000 tickets had already been sold for RIAT 2025 ahead of the line-up being revealed. Miss Cheevers said: "It's going to really bring to life their favourite memories, aircraft, them as a child 40 years ago, them now. "There's going to be a huge range of photos on there to really celebrate the 40 years here."George Bacon, a former pilot and a long serving RIAT volunteer, said the theme of this year's event is "eyes in the skies"."That means you're going to get some really interesting aircraft you generally don't see. "And if you see them you maybe don't know what they do. This year, you'll find out."The 2024 event raised £2.6m for the Royal Air Force Charitable 2025 will take place between 18 - 20 July.

An RAF aircraft has been spotted circling Swindon ahead of the Royal International Air Tattoo. The Airbus A400M Atlas flew from nearby RAF Brize Norton across the region on Wednesday morning, circling Swindon and Wiltshire. Sightings of the spectacular jet in Swindon skies may not be uncommon, but residents are always in awe when they see one. One member of the Swindon and Wiltshire Camera Club snapped the A400M flying past Tadpole Garden Village on Thursday, April 10. They said they saw the jet "flying pretty low" over Tadpole Garden Village, with another saying they have been plane-spotting from North Meadow. The craft can carry a 37-tonne payload over 2,000 nautical miles, capable of operating at altitudes of up to 40,000ft and accommodating up to 116 fully-equipped troops. On November 17, 2024, the RAF celebrated the 10-year anniversary of the A400M, after the fleet of 22 aircraft was delivered to RAF Brize Norton in 2024. More than 80,000 people have already secured their spots to see a variety of aircraft at the Royal International Air Tattoo, which is set to take place on Friday, July 18, Saturday, July 19, and Sunday, July 20.

The Red Arrows events have been announced for 2025 and the RAF's displays in Blackpool have been confirmed. The display team is known for its impressive displays at flypasts and airshows across the UK and abroad. If you've seen the Red Arrows performing their aerobatics in the sky, you'll remember their red, white and blue trails left behind them and the excitement of hearing them fly over you. Save the date! The first display will take place on Saturday, August 9 with the second one being the day after, on Sunday, August 10. Visitors can look forward to seeing 'some of the world's finest military and civilian aircraft performing over the iconic seafront', according to Visit Blackpool's website. The Red Arrows crew will be kicking off this year's schedule in May for a special VE Day flypast in London before ending at Duxford Flying Finale in October. Over the next few months, the Red Arrows will also be making an appearance at the Midlands Air Festival, Royal International Air Tattoo, Goodwood Festival of Speed and many more.
