ASEAN Leaders Head Home After Two-day Summit
GENERAL Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and his wife, Madame Pich Chanmony, departed for home today after attending the 46th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur. Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and spouse Vandara Siphandone head home tonight after concluding their visit to Malaysia for the 46th ASEAN Summit and related summits. They are accorded a red carpet send-off and inspect a guard-of-honour mounted by 28 officers and personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment (Ceremonial), led by Capt J. Lingesri Rao, at the Bunga Raya Complex, Kuala Lumpur International Airport. SEPANG, May 27 (Bernama) -- ASEAN member states' leaders and delegates have begun departing for home following the conclusion of the 46th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings today. Among those who left were Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet. All the leaders were accorded a red carpet ceremonial send-off at the Bunga Raya Complex, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), with a guard of honour mounted by the First Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment (Ceremonial). Paetongtarn departed at 7.10 pm aboard a special aircraft and was sent off by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa. Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang then bade farewell to the Singaporean Prime Minister, who boarded a commercial flight from KLIA Terminal 1 at 8.20 pm. This was followed by the departure of the Laos delegation, who were seen off by Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick. The Cambodian Prime Minister departed at 9.30 pm after being bid farewell by Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan. Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is scheduled to depart at 11.30 pm and will be sent off by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said. The 46th ASEAN Summit concluded today after a series of high-level engagements aimed at reinforcing regional cooperation and strategic partnerships.

Vietnam PM Chinh accorded formal welcome on first official visit to Malaysia
VIETNAMESE Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, who is on his first official visit to Malaysia, was accorded a formal welcome at the Perdana Putra Complex today. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim received his Vietnamese counterpart upon arrival at 2.30 pm, followed by the playing of both national anthems. Chinh then inspected a guard of honour mounted by three officers and 103 personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment (Ceremonial), led by Major Mohamad Waqiyudin Abd Rahman. Also in attendance were Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said; Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang; Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, foreign diplomats and senior government officials. Chinh is accompanied by his spouse, Le Thi Bich Tran, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, as well as several cabinet ministers and senior Vietnamese officials. Chinh assumed office in April 2021. His visit comes ahead of the 46th ASEAN Summit, Second ASEAN-GCC Summit and ASEAN-China-GCC Summit, all scheduled to take place in Kuala Lumpur on May 26 and 27. Following the welcome ceremony, Chinh and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim held a bilateral meeting to review the progress of Malaysia-Vietnam relations, which were elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in November 2024. Wisma Putra, in a statement, said discussions centred on key sectors such as trade and investment, defence and security, agriculture, the halal industry, renewable energy, tourism, and digital technology. The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments, reaffirming ASEAN's role as a cohesive and responsive platform in navigating shared challenges amid evolving geopolitical and geoeconomic landscapes. In 2024, Vietnam was Malaysia's 11th largest trading partner globally and fourth largest within ASEAN. Bilateral trade totalled RM83.11 billion, comprising RM53.86 billion in exports and RM29.25 billion in imports. Malaysian companies have undertaken more than 700 projects in Vietnam, with cumulative investments exceeding USD13 billion (RM55 billion). A joint press conference will follow the meeting, after which Anwar will host an official luncheon at Seri Perdana in honour of his Vietnamese counterpart. — BERNAMA

Kosovo President Osmani concludes four-day visit to Malaysia
SEPANG: Kosovo President Dr Vjosa Osmani Sadriu departed for Brunei today after concluding a four-day official visit to Malaysia, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations. A red-carpet farewell ceremony was held at the Bunga Raya Complex of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport here, featuring a guard of honour mounted by the First Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment (Ceremonial). She left at about noon on Sunday (May 4). Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek was present to bid farewell to Osmani and her delegation. Osmani arrived in Malaysia on Thursday (May 1), marking her first visit to the country since assuming office on April 4, 2021. On Friday (May 2), Osmani was accorded an official welcoming ceremony, followed by a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. One of the highlights of the visit was the conferment of Kosovo's highest civilian honour, the Order of Independence, upon Anwar. The award is granted to individuals who have made significant contributions towards the country's independence. The Kosovo government also conferred the award posthumously on former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in recognition of his contributions during a pivotal moment in the country's history. In a joint press conference on Friday, Anwar said Malaysia remains committed to working with Kosovo beyond traditional diplomatic ties, expanding into trade, investment and broader cooperation between both nations. Meanwhile, Osmani said Kosovo is set to deepen diplomatic, economic and security ties with Malaysia, signified by the opening of its embassy in Kuala Lumpur. Expressing deep gratitude for Malaysia's longstanding support, Osmani said the bond between the two nations was built not only through diplomacy but also on shared values of unity, dignity and diversity. Malaysia officially recognised Kosovo on Oct 30, 2008, becoming one of the first Asian countries to do so. Diplomatic relations were formally established on March 18, 2011. In 2024, total bilateral trade between Malaysia and Kosovo reached RM28.55mil (USD6.0mil), with Malaysia's exports to the republic valued at RM25.92mil (USD5.5mil) and imports at RM2.63mil (USD550,000). Key Malaysian exports include palm oil, electrical and electronic products, and manufactured goods, while imports from Kosovo mainly consist of raw materials and semi-precious stones. – Bernama

Anwar shares video of Kosovo President's official visit to Malaysia [WATCH]
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim shared a video online of Kosovo President Dr Vjosa Osmani Sadriu's official visit to Malaysia, which began Thursday. In a Facebook post, the three-minute, 10-second clip featured Osmani inspecting a guard of honour mounted by officers and personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment (Ceremonial) during the official welcome ceremony at the Perdana Putra Complex, followed by a bilateral meeting with Anwar. The video also showed the conferment of the Order of Independence, Kosovo's highest civilian award, on Anwar by President Osmani. In the caption accompanying the video, Anwar said the state visit by the President of the Republic of Kosovo and her delegation to Malaysia reflected the spirit of friendship and mutual commitment to strengthen bilateral relations and pave the way for broader cooperation between the two countries. "May this visit open up more strategic opportunities between our two countries, further strengthening our friendship and ushering in a new chapter in Malaysia-Kosovo cooperation," he said.
