Triple VE Day 80 commemorations at Bury Fusilier Museum
The lights may have gone out, but VE Day 80 celebrations continue at Bury's Fusilier Museum.
Like hundreds of landmarks across the nation, the Moss Street museum was illuminated red, white, and blue for three nights from Tuesday.
Commemorations continue on Saturday, May 10, with a VE Day Concert by the Band of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers Lancashire.
It will be performing in Gallipoli Gardens from 11am to 1pm
Museum spokesperson Gini Wilde said: 'Everybody loved the lights, they thought the building looked fabulous.
'With sunshine promised for Saturday, the concert should be a lovely occasion.'
The museum is also staging a temporary exhibition in the foyer, The Lancashire Fusiliers in the Second World War: A Legacy of Service and Sacrifice
'It highlights the personal stories of several Fusiliers who took part in the Second World War, with a focus on the campaigns in Malta, Dunkirk, Italy and Normandy,' said Mrs Wilde.
'It pays tribute to their service, preserving the memory of those who fought and fell and ensures their stories continue to inspire future generations for many years to come.'
Included in the exhibition are medals belonging to Lance-Corporal Robert Griffiths, MM & Bar, which have been loaned by his son, Derek.
Lance-Corporal Griffiths served with the 2nd Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers in the signals section during the Italian campaign of the Second World War.
He was awarded the Military Medal, and later a bar to that medal, for exceptional bravery under fire.
Amid intense fighting, he repeatedly risked his life to repair and maintain critical communication lines, ensuring that vital messages reached the front when they were needed most.
