Hospital hopes new centre will cut waiting lists
A new orthopaedic surgical centre has been officially opened at a hospital in Surrey.
The Surrey Surgical Centre at Ashford Hospital is a partnership between two hospital trusts and a care board.
The centre features an "expanded theatre complex" with two new theatres, increasing surgical capacity for elective orthopaedic procedures such as hip and knee replacement surgeries.
A hospital spokesperson says the "state-of-the-art facility is dedicated to providing additional resources to meet the growing demand for elective procedures".
Hospital bosses say they hope the expansion will make a "substantial impact" on reducing the length of waiting lists and waiting times for patients in need of surgery.
Louise Stead, group chief executive at Ashford and St Peter's and Royal Surrey Hospitals, said: "The Surrey Surgical Centre is a great example of partnership working between hospitals in Surrey Heartlands.
"We are committed to providing the best possible care for our communities, and the new centre is a practical example of how we are working together as an integrated care system to do this."
