Rockwall County pays tribute to fallen officers during ceremony

Local officials and law enforcement gathered Thursday morning to honor the memory of officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. The ceremony – held at Rest Haven Funeral Home – marked Rockwall County's annual observance of National Police Week. The event brought together police departments, sheriff's deputies and community members in a solemn tribute to the sacrifices made by law enforcement personnel. A combined honor guard from the Royse City Police Department and the Rockwall County Sheriff's Office presented the colors as the ceremony began, followed by a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Speakers included Royse City Police Chief Kirk Aldridge, Rockwall County Judge Frank New, Sheriff Terry Garrett and Felicia Oliphant of the District Attorney's Office. Each expressed gratitude for the dedication of officers and their families, noting the dangers faced by those in uniform each day. As part of the ceremony, the name of each fallen officer was read aloud, followed by the toll of a bell. The event concluded with a performance of 'Taps' by Charles Aldridge and a closing prayer asking for strength and safety for those who continue to serve. In 2024, 165 officers died in the line of duty across the country, including four in Texas – an increase from 157 reported deaths in 2023.

North Texas man faces felony charges after 11,000+ child pornography images seized, police say

A Royse City man is facing first-degree felony charges after detectives seized electronic devices believed to contain more than 11,000 digital images of child pornography from a residence, police said Thursday. Michael Conlon, 44, was arrested for possession of child pornography, according to the Royse City Police Department. Bond has been set at $500,000 for Conlon, who was taken to the Rockwall County Detention Center, officials said. On Thursday, detectives from the Royse City, Rockwall and Dallas police departments executed a search warrant in the 1300 block of Black Canyon Avenue in Royse City. The search warrant was the result of a joint undercover operation. "The Royse City Police Department, along with our law enforcement partners in the North Texas Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce, remain committed to protecting our children and bringing offenders who exploit them to justice," Royse City Police Chief Kirk Aldridge said in a news release. Aldridge urged anyone who suspects online child exploitation to report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children at or contact law enforcement.
