Aidiladha: Kpg Penakub Permai folks uphold values of sacrifice, selflessness

MUKAH (June 8): A strong sense of unity and community spirit filled Kampung Penakub Permai here on Saturday as residents gathered at Masjid Jamek to observe the ibadah korban in celebration of Hari Raya Aidiladha. The annual tradition, deeply embedded in local customs, saw participation from all segments of the community including youth, women and the elderly, who worked hand-in-hand in the slaughtering, preparation, and distribution of sacrificial meat. The event was graced by Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine, who joined villagers and volunteers in the religious event. 'Inclusive community involvement like this should be embraced as a model to foster enduring unity and social harmony,' he was quoted as saying in a Sarawak Public Communications Unit report. Royston also took part in similar ibadah korban at Kampung Tellian Tradisi and Masjid Setiraja, and expressed his appreciation for the community's dedication to upholding the values of sacrifice and selflessness during Aidiladha. Also on Saturday, Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon attended the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration organised by Urus Setia Saudara Kita (USK) Sungai Asap. The event took place in the compound of Masjid Al-Fattah, Sungai Asap. Chukpai extended his gratitude to USK Sungai Asap for inviting him and his delegation to be part of the celebration with the local community. 'May this celebration bring deeper meaning, compassion, and peace to us all, while strengthening the bonds among us,' he said. The event served not only as a religious celebration but also as a reflection of unity and harmony among the diverse communities in the area.

WANTED: Woman on the run, accused of murder in northeast Georgia
A manhunt is underway in northeast Georgia after a woman was found dead in Royston. The Hart County Sheriff's Office is searching for a woman accused of murder related to their investigation.. According to deputies, officers were sent to a home on Barton Road in Royston on Saturday and found a woman who'd been shot. The woman who was killed was later identified as Breiana Danielle Johnson, 34 of Royston. Now, officers are searching for Greata Nichole Thomas, also called Greata Nichole Mobley, 26, accused of murder. During YPS' much-anticipated Konsert Malam Perpaduan, which closed the festival on April 27, YPS chief executive Datu Aloysius J Dris said such cultural platforms support social cohesion. 'Kaul is more than a festival, it is a symbol of shared identity, a time to reflect on our roots, and an opportunity to bring people together,' he said in a statement. He said the presence of Deputy Economy Minister and Mukah MP Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib as well as Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine underscored the government's strong support for cultural platforms that promote social cohesion. Dris also thanked Persatuan Melanau Mukah and the organising committee for their commitment to preserving cultural traditions while fostering unity. A highlight of the night was the performance by the YPS Sape Ambassadors, whose fusion of traditional Sape melodies with modern instrumentation captivated the audience. Adding an inspiring multicultural layer, YPS also brought in its ambassadors from Peninsular Malaysia, including an Orang Asli from Perak and an Indian performer from Selangor, who shared the stage with their Sarawakian peers. Their performance was a vivid expression of national unity transcending geographical and ethnic lines. The concert was not only a musical success but a meaningful platform for cultural expression and mutual understanding. 'I believe this concert successfully fostered national unity by bringing together audiences from various ethnic backgrounds,' said YPS sape ambassador Muhammad Ikhmal, who comes from the Sekapan community. Internationally acclaimed singer and 27th World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) gold medallist Stanford Ryan delivered a show-stopping performance, while the dynamic Sibu D'Tari dance troupe got the crowd moving during an interactive mengarang dance session, igniting joy and camaraderie among attendees of all ages. In addition to the lively atmosphere on the ground, the concert garnered strong engagement online. MUKAH (April 28): Kaul Mukah 2025 wrapped up its programme last night with a unique musical performance by Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak (YPS). The special performance was themed 'Fostering Unity, Celebrating Diversity, and Preserving Cultural Heritage in Sarawak'. 'The performance, held at the main stage of Tapak Kaul Mukah, was warmly received by thousands of visitors, marking the end of this annual festival that began on April 19. 'Through a blend of traditional dances, ethnic music, and songs promoting unity, YPS showcased the richness of Sarawak's cultural diversity in an emotionally and spiritually engaging presentation,' Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine said in Sarawak Public Communication Unit report. Founded on May 16, 1994, Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak is a non-profit organisation committed to fostering and maintaining unity, harmony, and peaceful relations among Sarawak's diverse communities. Royston said he hoped YPS will continue playing a vital role in building an inclusive and respectful society. 'Their participation in this year's Kaul Mukah aims to strengthen public understanding of the importance of embracing different cultures while instilling a sense of pride in the region's heritage,' said Royston. Man not seen since August 2021 is reported missing
Police are appealing for information to help find a man from West Yorkshire who has been reported missing three and a half years after he was last last confirmed sighting of Richard Royston, 56, was in his home town of Huddersfield in August 2021, but he was only reported missing earlier this month, officers checks had since been made and the last transaction on Mr Royston's bank account was in the Kingston upon Thames area of London in July 2023 and he was not known to have access to any other money, a force spokesperson who had seen Mr Royston since 2021, or who had information about his whereabouts, was asked to get in touch, they added.
