Officers run 20 miles across Gwinnett in support of Special Olympics athletes
Dozens of law enforcement officers ran 20 miles across Gwinnett County on Thursday to show their support for athletes competing in this weekend's Special Olympics Georgia Summer Games. The annual Law Enforcement Torch Run began at 10 a.m. in Suwanee and ended around 2:30 p.m. in Loganville. Advertisement Officers from the Gwinnett County Police Department, Norcross police, and Gwinnett School police took part, running through communities along a route that stretched from the Forsyth County line to the Walton County border. Gwinnett County Police Assistant Chief Jason Rozier helped lead the run. His connection to Special Olympics is personal because his son has Down syndrome, and he's been involved with the organization since his son was born 15 years ago. TRENDING STORIES: 'When I started in Special Olympics, I was like the only guy in the department,' Rozier said. 'We have 55 to 60 officers out here today running just for Gwinnett.' Advertisement The event was timed to bring awareness to the Summer Games, which begin Friday at Emory University and will feature nearly 18,000 athletes from across the state. 'What we wanted to do was time the run so it brought the most attention to and most awareness for the athletes that will be competing this weekend,' Rozier said. The route was divided into segments, with support buses available for runners along the way. Each $108 raised through the Torch Run or through various fundraisers helps send one athlete to the games. Rozier said the run isn't about the distance; it's about standing up for people who overcome challenges every day. Advertisement 'We're trying to give a voice to those who may not have a voice,' he said. Officers said they plan to return next year and hope even more agencies join them on the course.

Heat's Rozier ruled out for Game 2 vs. Cavs: ‘I'm super frustrated'
CLEVELAND — Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier was on crutches and in a walking boot Tuesday, declared out for Wednesday night's Game 2 with the sprained left ankle suffered during Monday's optional practice. 'I just went to attack the basket and Niko (Nikola Jovic) tried to block it and I just came down wrong, sprained my ankle,' Rozier said. Advertisement As it is, Rozier has been out of the rotation. 'I'm super frustrated,' Rozier said of adding the injury to the mix. 'But God always has his plans, works in mysterious ways. So it's just staying with it and I still get to watch my guys hoop. So that's the most important thing to me.' Rozier said there was no need for an MRI. 'It's day to day,' he said. 'It's already getting better, so hopefully it continues to get better.' Other than veteran big man Kevin Love, who is away from the team due to personal reasons, the remainder of the Heat playoff roster is available for Game 2 in Cleveland. Game 3 is at 1 p.m. Saturday in the first of two at Kaseya Center in Miami.

Heat to be Without Two Players For Game 2 vs Cavaliers
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat are facing off in Game 2 of the one versus eight matchup in the Eastern Conference playoff bracket tonight at 7:30 p.m. EST. Entering the game, the Cavaliers are completely healthy, but the Heat have a decent number of players on the injury report. Of those players, most are available, but two specifically are out. More NBA news: Former NBA First Round Pick Announces Sudden Retirement From Basketball Veteran Kevin Love is out due to personal reasons, while Terry Rozier is out with a left ankle sprain. Neither played in Game 1 of the series, and during the regular season, both had minimal production. Rozier finished the regular season with a stat line of 10.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game in 64 games, which he only started 23 of. Love at 36 years old finished the season with 5.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and one assist per game in 23 games, which he started nine of. Evan Mobley #4 of the Cleveland Cavaliers celebrates after scoring over Bam Adebayo #13 of the Miami Heat during the first quarter of game one of the first round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs. Evan Mobley #4 of the Cleveland Cavaliers celebrates after scoring over Bam Adebayo #13 of the Miami Heat during the first quarter of game one of the first round of the Eastern Conference is the bigger loss, as he played 25.9 minutes per game during the regular season. However, Davion Mitchell picked up a good amount of the point guard slack, finishing Game 1 with 18 points, four rebounds, and nine assists. While the Heat need all the help they can get to take down the 64-18 Cavaliers, at least they have enough depth to overcome a few small injuries to role players. It is uncertain when either player will return. Rozier was originally listed as questionable, which could mean he will return soon, but he may not get the chance to return if the Cavaliers go on to sweep the series, a possibility after a dominant Game 1 victory. It is also unclear when Love will return. He has been out since March, and it is unknown when his personal reasons for being out will clear up. On the injury report, the Heat also has Alec Burks, Haywood Highsmith, Nikola Jovic, Pelle Larsson, and Duncan Robinson listed with injuries, but all are available. While it was unlikely the Heat would win the series anyway, it is certainly unfortunate for them that there is a huge discrepancy in health between the two teams. More NBA news: NBA Reacts to Warriors HC Steve Kerr's Historical Milestone Beyond the Cavaliers having everyone available, they don't even have a single player on the injury report who was at risk of missing out. The Heat has a total of seven, emphasizing the vast difference in overall play between these two teams. For the Heat's sake, they need to get healthy sooner rather than later if they want any chance to topple the top-seeded Cavs. For more NBA news and rumors, stay tuned to Newsweek Sports.

Erik Spoelstra, Heat ‘really feel' for Terry Rozier, Kevin Love and their tough situations
Terry Rozier and Kevin Love began the season in the Miami Heat's rotation. But both have since fallen out of the rotation and won't be available for Game 2 of the Heat's first-round playoff series against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night. Rozier will miss Game 2 at Rocket Arena after spraining his left ankle during an optional workout on Monday and Love remains away from the team because of ongoing personal reasons. It's just the latest setback amid a rough season for Rozier, who began the season as a Heat starter but received eight DNP-CDs (did not play, coach's decision) over the final 14 regular-season games. He also did not play in the Heat's two play-in tournament games and did not receive any playing time in Sunday's Game 1 loss to the Cavaliers in Cleveland before turning his ankle the next day. 'I really feel for Terry,' Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said following Wednesday's morning shootaround at Rocket Arena. 'You can see what kind of teammate he is, just how much everybody roots for him — staff and players alike. I love his vibe. I like how he's a team guy. 'Even when he hasn't been in the rotation, he's rooting for everybody and he's continued to work. He's always had that great work ethic and that edge, and it's a bummer that he got hurt basically on one of the last plays of the scrimmage. But he heals fast and we'll just treat him day to day.' Rozier, who is in a walking boot and on crutches, was one of only four players in the NBA who shot worse than 40 percent from the field and worse than 30 percent on threes while playing in at least 60 games this regular season. That list also includes Charlotte Hornets forward Tidjane Salaun, Philadelphia 76ers guard Ricky Council IV and Orlando Magic guard Jett Howard. 'I have the utmost respect for Terry,' Heat captain and three-time All-Star center Bam Adebayo said. 'He could have let go of the rope, like a lot of guys have done in this league. They let go of the rope because they're out of the rotation or whatever the case may be. For him to keep fighting, keep having perseverance and just keep stacking days of just trying to get better, you respect that in somebody.' As for Love, he was away from the team for the final 10 games of the regular season because of personal family reasons. He rejoined the team for the Heat's first play-in tournament game against the Chicago Bulls last week, but then again left the team to attend to personal reasons and remains away from the Heat for Wednesday's Game 2 in Cleveland. 'We feel for him and what he's going through right now,' Spoelstra said of Love. 'So the thoughts are more about that, being there for him. We all know how much he means to us in our locker room, but this transcends that.' The 36-year-old Love began the season as the Heat's backup center, but he has taken on more of a leadership role after dropping out of the Heat's rotation this season. He has played in just seven games since the start of January. 'We miss K-Love,' Adebayo said. 'But at some point, he might get back with us.' ADEBAYO'S GOOD WORK The NBA announced Wednesday that Adebayo is among the five finalists for the 2024-25 NBA Social Justice Champion award. The other finalists are Harrison Barnes of the San Antonio Spurs, Chris Boucher of the Toronto Raptors, Jrue Holiday of the Boston Celtics and CJ McCollum of the New Orleans Pelicans. According to a press release sent out by the league, 'The recipient of the annual award receives the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar trophy and recognizes a current NBA player for pursuing social justice and advancing Abdul-Jabbar's life mission to engage, empower and drive equality for individuals and groups who have been historically disadvantaged.' 'The biggest thing is giving people hope,' Adebayo said Wednesday after being named a finalist for the honor. 'That's what I really do it for, giving people encouragement. Understanding that there can be brighter days. You never know how something small can affect somebody's day, and that can go a long way. You hear about all the stories of NBA players saying one or two things to somebody, and it changed the whole trajectory of their life. So for me, it's just giving people hope.' The NBA Social Justice Champion will be announced during the playoffs and will receive $100,000 from the NBA to benefit a justice focused organization of his choosing.

Boston Celtics jersey history No. 12 - Terry Rozier (2015-19)
The Boston Celtics have had players suiting up in a total of 68 different jersey numbers (and have three others not part of any numerical series) since their founding at the dawn of the Basketball Association of America (BAA -- the league that would become today's NBA), worn by well over 500 players in the course of Celtics history. To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Celtics Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. With 25 of those jerseys now retired to honor some of the greatest Celtics to wear those jerseys, there is a lot of history to cover. And for today's article, we will continue with the 33rd of 36 people to wear the No. 12 jersey, Boston guard alum Terry Rozier. After ending his college career at Louisville, Rozier was picked up with the 16th overall selection of the 2015 NBA draft by the Celtics. The Youngstown, Ohio native would play the first 4 seasons of his pro career with Boston, leaving the team in free agency to join the Charlotte Hornets in 2019 in a sign-and-trade. During his time suiting up for the Celtics, Rozier wore only jersey No. 12 and put up 7.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.
