The decision was made in a meeting on May 23, where it was agreed to expand the list of eligible technology tools that MPs can purchase using their financial entitlements.
Members of the Rajya Sabha will now get access to the latest digital tools, including smart TVs, projectors, wearables, and other advanced gadgets, aimed at enhancing their efficiency in official duties.
The decision was made under the revised 'Scheme of Financial Entitlement of Members of Rajya Sabha for Computer Equipment', based on the 2008 Rules on Provision of Computer Equipment for MPs and officers.
The decision was finalised in a meeting held on May 23, where it was agreed to expand the list of eligible technology tools that members can purchase using their financial entitlements.
Under the scheme, Rajya Sabha MPs are eligible for financial support to procure IT equipment and software as follows:
Rs 2,00,000 for members elected or nominated for a term exceeding three years.
Rs 1,50,000 for members elected in a by-election for a term of three years or less.
An additional Rs 1,00,000 is granted after three years in office, provided the remaining term is at least six months.
MPs must submit original purchase bills to get reimbursed for the gadgets.
The move is seen as part of a broader effort to modernise parliamentary functioning and equip lawmakers with tools to stay connected, informed, and digitally efficient.
