Rumor Roundup: WWE fans, Travis Scott flaking, Asuka, AEW injuries, more!
Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill. Important reminder: Rumors are just that — rumors. None of this has been confirmed as fact, it's just circulating around the pro wrestling rumor mill. We track rumor accuracy in a weekly feature called Rumor Look Back you can find here. Remember, take it all with a grain of salt. Rumors for the Day: On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that people within WWE have actually suggested asking fans not to swear during TV shows. He would later add, however, that he doesn't expect it will actually happen. Jonathan Coachman is claiming on Behind the Turnbuckle that he is hearing Travis Scott 'flaked' on doing the tag team match with John Cena at Money in the Bank and he hasn't been training with Booker T. Per Fightful Select, there were creative discussions regarding Asuka at the beginning of the year but that was considered too early and it's still uncertain when she'll be cleared to return. The Observer notes that there are a lot of 'banged up' wrestlers in AEW coming out of Double or Nothing, including both the Young Bucks. PW Insider claims the decision on who should win the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Final between Will Ospreay and Hangman Page wasn't finalized until hours before the show. They apparently went back-and-forth on it quite a bit before settling on Page. Fightful adds that the two wrestlers themselves pushed for the other to win. For what it's worth, Mick Foley told The Wrestling Classic that he had a secret meeting with MJF about a retirement match last year that never came to fruition. Foley said he loved the ideas MJF had for what would have been a six-week program. Rumor Roundup: Becky Lynch return, Bayley sympathy, Rey Mysterio injury, AAA, more!
Rumors for the Day: WWE replacing Bayley with Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 'has been in the works for awhile' and 'was not a last minute thing', per Wrestling Observer Radio's Bryan Alvarez. A PW Insider Elite report said there was sympathy in the WWE locker room for Bayley this weekend after word got around about her losing her WrestleMania spot despite being healthy. Per Wrestling Observer Radio, the injury that led to Rey Mysterio having to be pulled from WrestleMania 41 was a torn groin. He initially thought he could power through but the damage was worse than he thought. WWE's acquisition of AAA has apparently been in the works for a while. Dave Meltzer said on Observer Radio that it's 'something that's been brewing for well over a year'. Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp talked to AAA talent who said they'd 'kind of heard stuff for a while' but didn't put much stock into it until 'stuff really started to pick up' after the TKO merger. Some that Sapp talked to were 'even skeptical of the announcement' and 'would be shocked' if the Roldan family sold WWE 'total control' of AAA. Regarding current AAA champ Alberto El Patron, Fightful says that for years WWE was a 'hard no' on bringing back the former Alberto Del Rio. But sources close to El Patron claim there have been talks, and that things are no longer 'contentious' between the two sides. F4WOnline's Dave Meltzer says WWE's original plan was for Charlotte Flair to be a babyface when she returned at Royal Rumble earlier this year. Eric Bischoff and CJ 'Lana' Perry became the latest wrestling figure to sign with Paradigm Talent Agency. They join CM Punk, Drew McIntyre, Tiffany Stratton, Damian Priest, Liv Morgan, Alexa Bliss, and Sheamus as Paradigm clients. Rumor Roundup: SmackDown frustration, format change, Drew McIntyre issue, more!
Rumors for the Day: According to WrestleVotes, there is frustration within WWE regarding SmackDown being three hours, as there is apparently 'creative fatigue.' That said, the format is expected to go back to two hours after WrestleMania, apparently sometime in June. PW Insider says that Drew McIntyre legitimately had to get something removed from his eye after the car spot with Damian Priest on SmackDown last week but apparently it wasn't glass. TNA+ had its subscriber count double in the past year, per Fightful Select, thanks in large part to contributions from members of the marketing team who were just recently fired. Kevin Knight signed with AEW but Insider says he had an invite for a tryout with WWE at the Performance Center 'several weeks ago.' Obviously, he made the choice to sign with AEW. Fightful notes NJPW wanted to keep Knight when his deal expired in January but he was always expected to find a deal in the States. AEW's money offer was simply the best. Rumor Roundup: Charlotte Flair displeased, Young Bucks return, Juice Robinson, more!
Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. None of this has been confirmed as fact, it's just circulating around the pro wrestling rumor mill. We track rumor accuracy in a weekly feature called Rumor Look Back you can find here. Remember, take it all with a grain of salt. Rumors for the Day: Fightful Select says Charlotte Flair 'didn't appear to be pleased' with the segment with Tiffany Stratton that went off the rails, but some wrestlers said 'talent has to be willing' to 'go at Charlotte in that manner.' Meanwhile, it was a directive from above that the YouTube version be edited the way it was. Per Fightful, there were pitches from talent for a story with The Young Bucks prior to their return at Dynasty, and many thought they would be back on AEW TV earlier. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter notes that Juice Robinson is 'a few weeks away from beginning in-ring training' and we should know more about a timeline for his return then. According to PW Insider, Rob Van Dam rolled his ankle during MLW's Battle Riot VII event but he was doing okay the next day. Brock Anderson also suffered a cut that required eight stitches. Sean Ross Sapp says he was told Alex Hammerstone has not signed a contract with MLW despite his return at Battle Riot VII.
