The airport, which hopes to have around 12 million people using it per year, has announced its Drop and Go car park will be cashless from Monday, May 12. ‌ Starting next week, after leaving passengers at the terminal, customers can approach the barrier and pay using card or contactless options, which includes Apple and Google Pay will also be accepted. ‌ Staff members at Bristol Airport will be available to help those unfamiliar with cashless payments. The innovative automatic number plate recognition system (ANPR) will recognize vehicles upon entry, making the car park experience ticketless, with fares being processed upon exiting. Located adjacent to the terminal building, the Drop and Go car park currently features five exit barriers, reports Bristol Live. While the Drop and Go section becomes cashless, patrons still have the option to use cash at the Short Stay and Pick Up areas as well as in the multi-storey car park. Payment machines for these sections can be found by their respective exits and on the ground floor of the multi-storey facility. ‌ Commercial Director Rupert Lawrie of Bristol Airport said: "By moving away from cash payments in Drop and Go, it should mean customers spend the minimum amount of time in the car park and can exit promptly, ensuring traffic flow continues to move smoothly." Bristol Airport is set to open a new £60m Public Transport Interchange and second multi-storey car park this summer, with construction of the pedestrian bridge link to the terminal forecourt currently underway. The revamped drop and go car park will be relocated here, alongside an expanded bus and coach bay area, increasing from five to 16 bays. This development will make it one of the region's largest coach/bus interchanges, improving accessibility for passengers. The Drop Off and Pick up car park in the Public Transport Interchange will also operate on a cashless basis and feature eight exit lanes to ensure smooth traffic flow.
