Marine police foil bid to smuggle untaxed alcohol in school van

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA: Port Klang marine police yesterday foiled a man's attempt to transport untaxed alcohol in a school van with the arrest of the suspect at Taman Sri Gadong. Marine police Region 1 commander Rusley Chi Ari said the 26-year-old suspect was apprehended in Klang as he was transferring the alcoholic beverages from a lorry into the van, Berita Harian reported. 'Upon inspection, officers discovered 56 boxes and 30 crates of various brands of liquor, believed to be untaxed, stored in the lorry and van. 'The seized items are estimated to be worth RM10,664.40, with unpaid duties amounting to RM36,889.57,' Rusley said in a statement today. He added that the vehicles involved, worth RM70,000, brought the total value of the seizure to RM117,553.97. Rusley said the suspect and seized items were taken to the Port Klang marine police headquarters for further action.
