LSU Shreveport completes unbeaten season; wins 1st national championship

LEWISTON, Idaho (KTAL/KMSS) — The LSU Shreveport baseball team made history Friday night winning the NAIA National Championship with a 13-7 win over Southeastern (Fla.) in the World Series title game. The Pilots (59-0) fell behind 4-0 in the 2nd inning but never flinched. Jose Sallorin drove in two runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning with a bases loaded single up the middle. Shreveport scored three runs in the inning to pull within one. With the Pilots trailing 7-6 in the bottom of the 6th inning Jackson Syring belted a solo homerun over the centerfield fence. You could feel the confidence building with one swing of the bat. The very next hitter, Ian Montz drove the ball over the right-centerfield wall to give LSUS the lead for good. Ryan Davenport and Sallorin drove in three runs each in the win. While Brock Lucas and Draven Ziegler didn't have their best stuff through the first four innings of the game on the mound, giving up seven runs on six hits, Kenneth Schechter was brilliant in relief. Schechter went four innings, while giving up no runs on two hits while striking out two to pick up the win. Ace Isaac Rohde came on in relief and pitched the final inning of the game. The Pilots extended the longest win streak by a college baseball team at any level to 59 games. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. LSU Shreveport ties win streak record with run rule win at NAIA World Series

LEWISTON, Idaho (KTAL/KMSS) — The LSU Shreveport Pilots improved to 57-0 with a 10-0 win over Southeastern (Fla.) in 7 innings Wednesday evening in the winners bracket at the NAIA World Series. The 57 game win streak ties the all-time college baseball record set by junior college member Howard College (Texas), in 2007. Isaac Rohde (16-0) pitched a gem for LSU Shreveport. The Pilots ace threw a complete game shutout, going 7 innings while giving up 4 hits with 10 strikeouts. The pressure was off Rohde as Shreveport plated five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Ryan Davenport led off the game with a double, and he was drove in by number two hitter Josh Gibson on a double to the right-centerfield gap. Anthony Swenda hit a solo homerun to right field in the 4th inning, the first of three runs in the inning. The Pilots get back on the field on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. CDT when they take on Hope International. LSU Shreveport is two wins from an NAIA National Championship. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Story by: LSU Shreveport Athletics SHREVEPORT, La. — Top-ranked LSU Shreveport kept its dominant season alive and punched its ticket to the Avista-NAIA World Series with a 9-6 victory over Mid-America Christian in the NAIA Baseball Opening Round Shreveport Bracket Championship on Wednesday evening at Pilot Field. The Pilots (54-0) built a commanding lead with a five-run third inning, started by Ryan Davenport's RBI single and a sacrifice fly from Vantrel Reed. Ian Montz then launched a three-run homer—his 14th of the season—to break the game open. Josh Gibson's RBI double in the fourth extended the lead to 6-0. LSUS then capitalized on a pair of MACU defensive miscues in the fifth, pushing across three more runs behind a bases-loaded walk by Angel Rodriguez and another RBI walk from Davenport. MACU (41-17) didn't go quietly, erupting for six runs in the sixth. Giordany Mendoza delivered a two-run single, Guillermo Velasco and Taiga Sakuma each drew bases-loaded walks, and Cristopher Munoz added a sac fly before Noel McGarry-Doyle capped the rally with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 9-6. Isaac Rohde (14-0) earned the win for LSUS, tossing 4.2 shutout innings with five strikeouts and just two hits allowed. Gabriel Dixon (6-3) took the loss for the Evangels, surrendering five runs over 2.2 innings. Montz finished with three RBI and a stolen base, while Davenport drove in two. Ryan Davenport shines as Pilots secure 53rd consecutive win

SHREVEPORT, LA (KTAL/KMSS) — LSU Shreveport leadoff hitter Ryan Davenport drove in five runs as the Pilots won their 53rd straight game 15-4 over Johnson University in the NAIA Regional at Pilot Field. The Pilots are now one win away from a trip to Lewiston, Idaho and the NAIA World Series. LSUS scored four runs in the top of the 2nd inning, capped by a bases loaded, bases clearing double by Davenport just over the centerfielder's head. The Pilots added six runs in the 3rd inning, including an RBI infield single by Davenport. 'Ryan's gritty. He's the type of guy we talk to him every year, you're not designed to start here because he's 150 pounds and 6 foot but he's at the top of our lineup for a reason,' said Pilots head coach Brad Neffendorf. 'He'll get in there, dig his feet in and puts together good AB's and he's hit over .400 the entire year. He's been a great guy at the top for us.' 'I was seeing it well, It was a good day at Pilots park,' said Davenport. 'When the pitchers are pitching like that it's really easy to hit behind them. They threw a lot of strikes got a lot of guys out so us on the offensive side we just work behind them.' Four different players had multiple hits in the win for the Pilots. LSU Shreveport will play either Mid-American Christian, Ottawa or Johnson on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. for a spot in the World Series. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. LSUS stacks on another sweep; Pilots improve to 44-0

SHREVEPORT, LA (KTAL/KMSS) — On Friday, LSUS baseball broke the NAIA record for the longest win streak, and now the Pilots continue to add on that new record with another victory over University of Houston-Victoria on Saturday. After outscoring the Jaguars 22-4 in the first two games of the series, Saturday's matchup gave the Pilots more of a challenge. The two runs both came in the third inning. Ryan Davenport singled up the middle bringing home Cooper Huspen for the first run for the Pilots. Shortly after, Vantrel Reed also had an RBI single, bringing in Davenport for that second run. While the game may have been a little too close for comfort, the Pilots welcome the late-season challenge. 'Honestly, today as much as we struggled offensively, their guy did a really good job and I mean, a 2-0 ballgame is not bad for us to be in going into the postseason coming up here soon and for us to have to play in another game that's close. We had to pitch our way to it. So, I'm good with it,' head coach Brad Neffendorf said. 'They've continued to find ways to win ballgames.' The Pilots wrap up the rest of its regular season next weekend with one last series at Jarvis Christian, playing one game on Friday and a double header on Saturday. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
