84 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No. 84?
84 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No. 84? The Houston Texans are less than 100 days away from kicking off the 2025 season in Los Angeles against the Rams at SoFi Stadium and we're counting down the days until a victory ensues on the west coast. Texans Wire will each day tell you which player has worn the number of the day leading up to kickoff and pick the player who ensured the number best during their time at NRG Stadium. As for today, let's take a look at who has won No. 84 since the inaugural season in 2002. Texans players to wear No. 84 No. 84 currently belongs to wide receiver Justin Watson, who signed a one-year deal this offseason after spending the past several seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. There's a chance Watson's doesn't even make the active roster, but his size, physicality and special teams skills might make him the future No. 6 option in the passing attack. Since he's new to the roster, Watson can't be the best player to ever wear the No. 84 in a Texans uniform. The options, however, are slim over the last two decades. TE Teagan Quitoriano (2022-2023) TE Ryan Griffin (2013-2018) WR Darnell Jenkins (2008) WR Eric Moulds (2006) TE Marcellus Rivers (2005) WR J.J. Moses (2003-2004) WR Jermaine Lewis (2002) Best Player: Ryan Griffin Arguably the best No. 2 tight end in franchise history, Griffin was the ideal option to start in a pinch. While he never became the No. 1 option, he spent five seasons stabilizing the passing attack across the middle of the field as a No. 3 or No. 4 target. Drafted out of UConn in the sixth round, Griffin caught over 110 passes for nine touchdowns. He eventually cashed in on a contract with the New York Jets in 2019, where he caught a career-high five touchdowns. In five seasons, he averaged a career-best 14.4 yards per reception. His best season came in 2016, when he caught 50 balls for 442 yards.

Downtown Greenville businesses seeing some students stay in town for work
GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — With no ECU students in town, it encourages some locals to come to downtown Greenville and enjoy the atmosphere. Some say it's almost more encouraging to come out since they don't have to worry about student traffic and overcrowding. A few students are staying in town this week to work for some extra cash while others are leaving town for Spring Break. To encourage more customers, some businesses are rolling out spring break and St. Patrick's Day specials. 'Spring Break is always a little unpredictable,' Owner of The Scullery Matt Scully said. 'We've had a good day today, which is nice. Of course, it takes away a lot of the student traffic that we depend on.' 'We rely on our locals pretty heavily in and out of the year. So, you know, they always come out and support us,' Co-owner of Nash Hot Chicken Ryan Griffin said. 'And, you know, Spring Break just brings another opportunity to reach other people that may be afraid to come downtown because of the college kids, so we welcome those with open arms.' They encourage everyone to shop local to help out with the break dip as much as they can. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
