Priceville police: Man charged with DUI had infant in vehicle
May 22—A Somerville man was charged with driving under the influence and reckless endangerment Wednesday evening after officers pulled him over and found an infant in the back seat of his vehicle, according to the Priceville Police Department.
Police said officers pulled over 27-year-old Ryan Yvez Hernandez near the intersection of Shoal Creek Road and Horse Center Road for suspicion of driving under the influence. As Hernandez was performing a field sobriety test for the officers, police saw an infant secured in a car seat inside the vehicle.
After it was determined that Hernandez was impaired, police said they arrested and charged him with driving under the influence, reckless endangerment, possession of an open container, improper lane usage, driving without insurance and operating a vehicle with an expired tag. He was transported to Morgan County Jail and held in lieu of a $3,500 bond, according to Priceville police.
"I want to remind the public that our department has a zero-tolerance policy for driving under the influence," said Priceville Police Chief Jerry Holmes. "This behavior not only jeopardizes the safety of the driver and their family, as demonstrated in this case, but also endangers the lives of innocent individuals. We remain committed to rigorously enforcing DUI laws and will pursue every available charge against offenders."
