One of four Selwood brothers to play in the AFL, Adam played 187 games for West Coast. He was part of the Eagles' premiership side that defeated the Sydney Swans in a classic grand final in 2006. Joel Selwood, 36, appeared to reference both brothers when he posted a series of photos to Instagram late on Wednesday evening. The four-time premiership winner also included the heartbreaking caption: 'Rest up, love you brother. Look after each otherï¸.' He finished it off with a love heart and two dove emojis. A number of sporting figures quickly commented on the heartwrenching post. Nick Riewoldt, Geelong forward Ollie Dempsey, Trent Cotchin and NRL star Ryan Papenhuyzen all responded with love heart emojis. The news of Adam's passing on Saturday was a hammer blow to the sport across the country, with figures including Collingwood coach Craig McRae breaking down in a sideline interview and again in his press conference after their win over Adelaide. Adam's wife Fiona first confirmed the news in a statement via the AFL: 'We are heartbroken by the passing of Adam earlier today. Words cannot express the grief and sadness we feel. 'Adam was a loving husband, and an incredible father to Lenny and Billie. We are devastated to lose such a wonderful husband, father, son and brother. 'We will miss Adam deeply — his spirit, his kindness, and the joy he brought to every room. 'His determination, the lessons he shared, and his infectious personality will stay with us always. Adam had a unique ability to make people feel special, and our family was lucky to experience that every day. 'We kindly ask for privacy as we navigate this difficult time.' The youngest Selwood brother, Scott, was granted personal leave and relieved of his duties as Collingwood's forwards coach ahead of the Magpies' game against Adelaide at the MCG on Saturday afternoon. 'On behalf of everyone at Collingwood, we extend our deepest condolences to the Selwood family following the passing of Adam,' the Magpies said. 'We send strength & all of our love to Adam's parents Maree & Bryce, his brothers Scott & Joel, his wife Fiona & their children Lenny & Billie.' The shattering news comes just months after Adam's twin brother Troy died in February. Troy's body was found at a Geelong home. At a memorial service at Geelong's GMHBA Stadium, Adam led the tributes for his twin brother, describing Troy as 'full of life, full of love, full of wisdom beyond his years'. 'Having an identical twin is a both a rare privilege and wonderfully complex,' he said. 'A twin is more than a sibling. They are a constant presence, a built-in mate. 'He was my mirror, my fiercest competitor, my greatest ally and the one person who knew what I was always thinking.'

State of Origin ramifications after Papenhuyzen captured in ugly act after siren
Ryan Papenhuyzen's hopes of being named in the NSW State of Origin squad might lie in the hands of the match review committee, after the Melbourne Storm fullback was placed on report on Saturday night. Papenhuyzen let his frustrations get the better of him in the Sharks' 31-26 win, collecting Ronaldo Mulitalo in the head with a swinging arm on the game's final play. Mulitalo had been antagonising the Storm players all night, clapping in Xavier Coates' face after he dropped the ball late in the game. The Sharks winger then stood over Papenhuyzen after he spilled a pass in the final minute, which drew the ire of the Storm players. Melbourne received a penalty after it was found that Sifa Talakai had hit Papenhuyzen in the head, and the Storm launched the ball in the air on the final play of the game after the siren. After Mulitalo came down with it and went to ground, Papenhuyzen launched in and whacked him in the head. The Storm fullback appeared to be trying to get one back on Mulitalo, but his actions went too far. The incident sparked a melee and referee Adam Gee put Papenhuyzen on report. Gee admitted he would have sent Papenhuyzen to the sin-bin if there was any time remaining on the clock. "This has gotten a little more fired up than usual," Dan Ginnane said in commentary for Fox League. "Ronaldo Mulitalo looks like he was attacked." Michael Ennis said Papenhuyzen "just launched in". The match review committee will meet on Sunday morning to review all of Saturday's games, and Papenhuyzen could find himself in hot water. But considering Stephen Crichton was only hit with a $3000 fine for a similar incident on Friday night, Papenhuyzen should be OK. Any suspension would have ramifications for State of Origin, with Papenhuyzen an outside chance to be included in Laurie Daley's NSW squad. Dylan Edwards is likely to be retained as the Blues' fullback, but James Tedesco and Papenhuyzen have been playing well enough to potentially take the spot. "He is someone who could play that role very well I think,' Daley said on Sky Sports radio. 'With the speed of the game, fatigue and all those types of things, you could inject him. "He could be there as cover for an injury to an outside back. But I think you could get him into the game as a lock and inject some speed in and outside the ruck. That's not a silly idea... it's something that has been spoken about.' Connor Watson is the more likely candidate to be the utility on the bench, but it's not out of the realms of possibility that both could find themselves on the interchange. Papenhuyzen has never played State of Origin, although Brad Fittler admitted last week he would have picked him in the 2020 series if he hadn't suffered an ill-timed ankle injury.
