‘We want answers and justice': Family of 13 year old Ryland Calvert speaking out two weeks after deadly shooting
COLBERT COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — It's been 2 weeks since 13-year-old Ryland Calvert was shot and killed at an apartment complex in Florence, and his family is now speaking out. 'He was an amazing athlete; he wanted to make it,' said Tiffany Calvert, Ryland's mother. 'He had the biggest heart, when you got to know him he was so loving'. Attorneys for former Decatur police officer ask to move back murder trial, say state doesn't oppose moving it Calvert said her son was taken way too soon. 'He would have been 14 on April 21; we were waiting on track to start up,' Calvert said. Ryland was shot and killed at an apartment complex in Florence just two weeks ago. 'You know you're in denial, really. You really you go through a lot of now because that night I just slept on the couch and I usually don't just wait, thinking he was gonna come through the doors, you know,' Calvert said. Colbert County implements storm shelter program ensuring citizens are safe after severe weather Calvert says she misses him every day. 'We miss the small things, the momma, 'momma,' he didn't call me mom it was always momma and every time he'd say it, I would say 'what' because I knew he wanted something when he'd give me that 'momma,'' Calvert said. Ryland dreamed of running track at the collegiate level. Ryland was ranked seventh in the country for the junior Olympics in track. 'He was good, he was stocky, he was muscular and he was just fast,' Calvert said. Calvert said two weeks after the tragic shooting, she and her family just want answers and justice. 'We just want justice, whoever it falls on, we've said it from day one, if our son was in the wrong we have to admit he made a mistake but if he wasn't we want justice as well,' Calvert said. They hope that no matter the outcome, they can keep Ryland's name and memory alive. 'Something greater will come from this and I do believe that, but is a mom, right now, that's really hard to hear because I'm selfish and I want him here but I do know something. Something will come. I don't know what it is but will,' Calvert said. News 19 reached out to the Florence Police Department for an update on this incident. Florence PD tells News 19 that they are still investigating. 2025 Arizona Cardinals offseason roster profile: K Chad Ryland
2025 Arizona Cardinals offseason roster profile: K Chad Ryland A look at kicker Chad Ryland, what he did in 2024, his contract status and his outlook on the team for 2025. The Arizona Cardinals are in offseason mode and we are days away from free agency and weeks from the NFL draft. Leading up to the new league year, we will take a look at each player on the roster or signed to a reserve deal and break down where they stand with the team. We will look at their 2024 season, their contract status and what their status is for the coming offseason and 2025 season. Next up is kicker Chad Ryland. 2024 Chad Ryland stats, season Ryland joined the team in Week 5 after Matt Prater suffered what would end up being a season-ending knee injury. Bouncing back from a rough rookie season in 2023 with the New England Patriots, he made game-winning field goals in the final minute in three of the first four games he played. He made 28-of-32 field goals with a long of 57 yards and 26-of-27 extra points. He was named a Pro Bowl alternate. 2025 contract status Ryland is signed through 2025. He is scheduled to make $1.03 million. Outlook for 2025 Ryland is expected to be the Cardinals' kicker moving forward. He was both consistent and clutch. Prater will be a free agent and is 40 years old, so the Cardinals were fortunate to find his replacement without having to compete with other teams in free agency. It is possible the Cardinals bring in another kicker in to compete during the offseason, but Ryland established himself as a guy the team can count on. Puff puff Nigerian doughnuts recipe by Jess and Jo Edun
Puff puff is one of the most famous, tasty, tantalising dishes in Nigeria, sold by street vendors on stalls or people carrying them in snack bags. This perfect dessert and sharing sweet treat is Nigeria's answer to a doughnut. Our grandma made the best puff puffs – beautifully handcrafted and crunchy on the outside and sweet and delicious on the inside. Whenever she heard we were coming over, she would make a big batch of batter, leaving it to ferment for a short period of time to achieve its fluffy centre. This is what sets hers apart and left us wanting more. She would serve them warm and we would fill her in on our week and we would laugh while tucking in, and she'd always be frying more to fill us up before we set off back home. These delights will always have a special place in our hearts. Makes 15-20 large puff puffsdried yeast 2 tbsp vanilla extract 1 tbsp lukewarm water 500ml plain flour 500g white granulated sugar 150g ground cinnamon 1 tsp ground nutmeg 1 tsp saltvegetable oil 1 litre, for deep fryingicing sugar and Milo instant malt chocolate powder to sprinkle (optional) Mix the yeast and vanilla extract into the lukewarm water and leave to sit for 5 minutes for the yeast to activate. Meanwhile, sift the flour into a large bowl and add the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and a pinch of salt. Mix the yeast water into the flour bowl and stir until the batter is a smooth and sticky consistency. If the batter is too thick, add more lukewarm water. Cover the batter with clingfilm and rest for 1 hour: the mixture should have fermented, ensuring a fluffy fry. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep saucepan or a deep-fat fryer to about 180C. You will know the oil is ready by dropping a small piece of the batter into the oil. If it rises, then the puff puff is ready to fry. Using an ice-cream scoop, scoop the mixture and carefully place it in the hot oil. Cook over a medium heat, ensuring the individual puffs do not stick together, until they are a golden colour all over. It takes roughly 2-3 minutes to fry the first batch of puffs. Transfer to paper towels to drain any excess oil once cooked. Sprinkle the puffs with icing sugar and Milo chocolate powder, if liked.
