Kota Kinabalu: The State Government has intervened in a dispute between some 300 villagers and the landowner of a 13.2-acre site with CL status in Kg Jimpangah, Beaufort. The local villagers in 53 houses insist they have been residing on the land for about 70 years. They said various facilities had been built to cater for their wellbeing and needs. They also applied for their settlement to be gazetted as a village since 1991. However, the land was sold to a company in 2005. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor instructed the Department of Land and Surveys to look for a solution on May 16, 2025. Kg Jimpangah Action Committee Chairman Rynnalto Elsther bin Peter sent a letter dated May 13, seeking the State Government's intervention since the dispute arose in 2023. Advertisement Rynnalto claimed a letter was forwarded by the department to the landowner for postponement of the eviction notice. The eviction notice was issued by the High Court after the landowner decided to seek court intervention. 'Several heavy machinery were parked at the land on Tuesday afternoon and we know that the land owner is adamant to enforce the eviction as we have yet to receive information about postponing the eviction notice,' Rynnalto said. He said many of the villagers are adamant to stay at their houses f the eviction notice is executed today (May 21). 'We hope that the eviction notice scheduled today (May 21) to be postponed again for another date so that the Land and Survey Department can come up with solution for the land dispute. 'We are counting on the State government to help us,' Rynnalto said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? KOTA KINABALU: The State Government has stepped in to address a long-standing land dispute involving 300 villagers in Kg Jimpangah, Beaufort, who have lived on a 13.2-acre CL-status land for about 70 years. The land, sold to a company in 2005, includes 53 homes and public facilities. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor instructed the Land and Survey Department on May 16 to find a solution. This follows an appeal from Kg Jimpangah Action Committee Chairman, Rynnalto Elsther, who said the department requested a postponement of the High Court-issued eviction, scheduled for May 21. However, the landowner has yet to respond and appears determined to proceed with the eviction. Villagers are urging for a delay to allow the State to resolve the dispute.
