Tummala orders action against audit officials
Hyderabad: Expressing anger over the lack of audits of
apex cooperative societies
over the past ten years, Agriculture minister
Tummala Nageswara Rao
ordered action to be taken against the responsible
audit officials
. He held a review meeting with various wings of the
agriculture department
and instructed officials to take immediate steps against those accountable.
He also directed that all apex cooperative societies be audited.
The minister further instructed officials to proceed with the construction of warehouses and cold storage facilities under the marketing department, utilising NABARD funds. He emphasised the need for strict management of
farmers' markets
to ensure that only farmers are permitted to sell their produce. He also called for the installation of CCTV cameras in all markets and Rythu Bazars (farmers' market), and inquired about the progress in setting up digital boards within these markets.
Additionally, he advised marketing officials to review proposals from public representatives concerning the reorganisation of market yards, and to implement those that comply with regulations.
The minister enquired whether crops were being harvested from the 2,800 farmers who planted oil palm in 2021. If not, he suggested identifying the reasons and informing farmers of the necessary corrective measures. He emphasised that off-type plants must not be allowed into farmers' fields under any circumstances and instructed that the Oilfed organisation should serve as a model for all other companies .
