This means 16 cores and 32 threads for the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 12 cores for the Ryzen 9 9900X3D. The flagship sports 144MB of combined cache, while its cheaper counterpart offers 140MB. Despite the lack of updates in the specs, the CPUs should get a significant boost from the update to Zen 5 and a newer 3D V-Cache. So far, reviewers highlight that the 9950X3D can match the 9800X3D in gaming, while rivaling the 9950X in productivity. This isn't a surprise — the same situation took place in the Ryzen 7000 generation, when the two CPUs to compare were the 7950X3D and the 7950X. AMD is releasing its latest Ryzen X3D processors on March 12
AMD has announced that it's releasing its newest Ryzen X3D processors on March 12. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D were both introduced back at CES 2025, and are currently the most powerful gaming-focused processors the company sells. The 9950X3D has 16 Zen 5 CPU cores, a max boost speed of 5.7GHz and second-generation 3D V-Cache tech for more efficient performance. In contrast, the 9900X3D comes with a more modest 12 CPU cores and a max boost speed of 5.5GHz. AMD's 3D V-Cache tech is still the standout feature on these chips. The company introduced 3D V-Cache as a method of packaging cache modules on top of each other to provided less RAM-intensive performance. The tech was added to desktop processors first, before coming to laptop processors in 2023. The 9950X3D's 3D V-Cache packaging allows it to be 20 percent faster than Intel's Core i9 285K across 40 different games, according to stats AMD shared when it announced the chip. It's also supposed to be at least 10 percent faster across certain content creation apps, too. When you take into account AMD's recently released Radeon 9070 GPUs, the company has the pieces you need to make a pretty compelling gaming PC. The AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 900X3D will be available to order on March 12. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D will start at $699 and the Ryzen 9 9900X3D starts at $599.

AMD ramps up gaming performance with new X3D CPUs, and they're almost here
If you're waiting for a chance to upgrade your gaming rig, you don't have to wait much longer. AMD announced that the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and the Ryzen 9 9900X3D will hit store shelves on March 12 for $699 and $599, respectively. First unveiled at CES 2025, these two processors promise huge gains in performance for gamers wanting the best frame rates and visuals they can possibly get. AMD describes the Ryzen 9 9950X3D as the 'ultimate 16-core desktop CPU,' and while there might be a bit of hyperbole involved, this is an undeniably powerful piece of hardware. Its 16 cores give it 32 Threads, and it comes with a base clock speed of 4.3GHz that can boost up to 5.7GHz. It also sports a 144MB cache and uses an admittedly high 170W TDP. The Ryzen 9 9900X3D is slightly less powerful, but still nothing to scoff at. With 12 cores and 24 Threads, this CPU is more than capable of handling most anything you throw at it, but make no mistake: it's designed with gaming in mind. With a base clock speed of 4.4 GHz and a max speed of 5.5GHz, you'll get great performance with a more reasonable 120W TDP. If the prices feel familiar, it's because AMD hasn't changed a thing from the last-generation equivalents of these two cards. It's still on the higher-end compared to other cards on the market, but these offer an alternative to the hard-to-find 9800X3D. Opting for a non-X3D card will save money, but comes with a significant gaming performance hit. AMD's upcoming 9950X3D might be surprisingly pricey at launch
AMD is soon set to launch a couple of its best processors, including the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and the Ryzen 9 9900X3D. According to leakers, their launch date is merely a week away, as the CPUs are said to come out on March 12. Today, we got a peek at the pricing for the top chip in the lineup, the 9950X3D, and it looks like it might cost a hefty amount at launch. The beastly gaming CPU was spotted by 9550pro on X (Twitter). The leaker used a price plugin to uncover how much it'll cost. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D was shown with a 5599 RMB (Chinese yuan) price tag, which translates to roughly $772 at the time of writing. Meanwhile, the 9900X3D is said to cost 4599 RMB, which means $634 — nearly $140 less. Comparing these prices to the recommended list price (MSRP) for the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D, which was the previous gen flagship, shows an increase. The CPU launched at $699 and it received multiple price cuts since then, dropping to as low as $530 at times. However, as production slowed down, it slowly became harder to come by and the price went up accordingly. It now costs $734, which is just under the upcoming 9950X3D. Needless to say, at that price and with a new version coming out soon, it's no longer worth buying. Circling back to that rumored $772 price tag for the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, it is quite worrying — but keep a couple of things in mind. For one, this is just one leak from a Chinese retailer that may or may not be true. Even if it is, prices in the U.S. might be different. We've seen the Ryzen 9 9950X3D briefly leaked on Newegg in February and the flagship cost $699, which is the same price as the 7950X3D at the time of release. So, it may not be as bad as all that after all. AMD is yet to officially announce the release date or the price of the new Ryzen CPUs. It has, however, revealed their specs during its CES 2025 keynote.
