BEE appreciates APSECM and southern SDAs for successfully implementing its Standards & Labelling Program
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has expressed satisfaction over the active participation of all State Designated Agencies (SDAs), particularly the proactive Southern SDAs, including the AP State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM), for successfully implementing the Standards & Labelling Program (S&LP).
In an official release, the BEE has urged SDAs to sustain the momentum by intensifying efforts to promote the Behaviour-Based Energy Saving Practices (2BESP), crucial in combating climate change and reducing electricity consumption.
According to the BEE, the 2BESP initiative has the potential to save up to 22.50 billion kWh of energy annually. To realise this potential, the BEE emphasised the need for targeted awareness and implementation campaigns at State-level.
During an interactive session on the impact of 5-star-rated appliances on Sunday, senior BEE officials, including Deputy Director General Ashok Kumar, Secretary Milind Deore, and Directors Abhishek Sharma and Karman Sheikh, highlighted the importance of adopting high-efficiency appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, and ceiling fans for achieving a substantial reduction in both electricity usage and consumer bills.
The officials encouraged SDAs to collaborate with Residential Welfare Associations (RWAs) and group housing societies to spread awareness about maintaining air conditioner temperatures at 24°C or higher in line with the Government of India's national energy efficiency campaign for both commercial and residential buildings.
With India's building sector currently accounting for 35–40% of the country's total energy consumption, the BEE stressed the need for urgent adoption of energy efficiency measures by SDAs. AP was one of the front-runners in rolling out the S&LP.
