Asked to pay, SI thrashes ice-cream vendor, suspended

Jhansi: SSP on Tuesday suspended a traffic sub-inspector after a video went viral in which he was seen severely thrashing an ice-cream vendor because the ice-cream vendor demanded money from the police official for the two ice-creams he had bought. Blood was also seen oozing from the victim's ears. The incident took place near Rajgarh in the Prem Nagar police station area. On Tuesday, the victim, Rohit, who is in his teens and sells ice-cream on a company e-rickshaw, was taking his sister Kranti to her college for her annual BSc exam on the same vehicle. Midway, he was stopped by traffic sub-inspector Ram Niwas and a traffic constable. The duo asked for the licence and the papers of the vehicle, to which Rohit pleaded that it was a company-owned vehicle and asked the S-I to talk to the company officials for the vehicle papers. According to Rohit, the S-I asked for two ice-creams, and when Rohit demanded payment, he got furious and started thrashing him, which led to blood oozing from his ears. A video of the thrashing, recovered from the nearby CCTV, went viral, showing the police official thrashing the boy. Some people were also heard saying that the S-I was seen thrashing a motorcyclist a couple of days ago. As a result, Kranti could not reach the examination centre and had to miss her exam. Later, CO (Traffic) Asma Vaqar arrived to handle the situation. Based on her preliminary reports, SSP BBGTS Murthy suspended S-I Ram Niwas and ordered an enquiry against him. "We are conducting a detailed enquiry of the whole incident, and based on the report, further action will be taken," Asma said. Around a month ago, another video of Ram Niwas had gone viral from a different location where a motorcyclist was levelling serious allegations against him.
