Documents shed light on pair of shootings & wounded Police officer
SIOUX FALLS S.D. (KELO) — We understand more about a pair of shootings that wounded a Sioux Falls Police officer and a suspect one week ago today. Samir Albaidhani is charged with multiple counts of attempted first degree murder of a law enforcement officer in two different counties. The crime spree started in Sioux Falls and ended more than 30-miles south along Interstate 29. Affidavits filed in Minnehaha and Union Counties spell out what led up to an officer being shot in Sioux Falls. They also include details about a shootout along Interstate 29. It all started last Tuesday afternoon, when police spotted Samir Albaidhani in what they believed to be a stolen car, near Elmwood and 12 Street . He was wanted on several warrants. Bank robbery in Eagle Butte ends in arrests Court papers say Albaidhani got out of the car and ran, officers told him to 'get to the ground,' instead he kept running and allegedly fired two shots from a handgun. One officer was struck and fell to the ground but was able to return fire. The other officer stopped to help the wounded officer who was taken to the hospital with a non life threatening injuries. Albaidhani disappeared into the neighborhood. Ten minutes later and just blocks away, a maroon SUV was reported stolen. It had been left running with the keys inside. Thinking it may be Albaidhani Police put out a description. The South Dakota Highway Patrol and surrounding law enforcement agencies were instructed to be on the lookout. About a half hour later two Beresford police officers spotted the stolen car on I-29 and alerted the Highway Patrol. The affidavit says Albaidhani pulled off the interstate and fired 2 rounds round at from inside the SUV. When a trooper returned fire, Albaidhani allegedly took of running and fired another round before a trooper struck him with a patrol the ordeal, Albaidhana was also shot in his right arm. Court documents say investigators recovered a 9 MM Glock 43X like this one on the Glock website. They also found and collected spent shell casings. Turns out the gun was stolen from a vehicle in Sioux Falls just days before the shooting. Albaidhani faces a long list charges in both Minnehaha and Union counties, including attempted murder, aggravated assault and resisting arrest. Albaidhani returned to court today and was officially charged with stealing the S-U-V involved in the chase. He was no longer in a sling. Panama City road rage shooting update
BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – 48-year-old Georgeann Garner and her 19-year-old daughter Marleigh Lewis were together with others Saturday, celebrating Georgeann's birthday. Around 4:00 the group left the St. Andrews Mardi Gras parade, heading to a local restaurant for dinner. Somewhere along the way, they crossed paths with 23-year-old Jubal Simmons and 21-year-old Ivybella Encino in some type of traffic incident. It came to a head at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Highway 231. UPDATE: PCPD releases more information on deadly road-rage shooting 'An occupant from Miss Garner's vehicle went back to this Encino vehicle and struck Miss Encino and that was the conclusion of it. It wasn't a big drawn-out brawl or anything like that,' Captain Chris Nichol said. Video shot by a witness shows what happened. Encino pulls the gray Dodge pick-up around Garner's burgundy S-U-V. You can hear as many as 11 gunshots as the pick-up sped away. Both Garner and Lewis were shot in the chest. Garner was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Lewis is still in critical condition. Two others in Garner's SUV were not injured, police were nearby and immediately responded. 'We also had an officer in a nearby parking lot that heard the shots and saw a vehicle fleeing from the scene. The officer got behind that gray Dodge Ram and attempted a traffic stop, which then turned into a fleeing event. The officer pursued that vehicle north on Highway 231, eventually landing in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn near the intersection of Highway two. 31 and Highway 77. The vehicle continued to attempt to flee, officers eventually ramming one of our units,' Nichol said. Two arrested following deadly shooting in Panama City Following the collision, officers say Simmons tried to run away but was quickly arrested. He's facing 9 charges, including first-degree murder, shooting into a vehicle, and destroying physical evidence. Encino is facing 4 charges, including accessory to murder, fleeing and eluding police, and aggravated battery on a first responder. Her bond is $800,500. Simmons is being held without bond. Garner's close friend has created a GoFundMe account to help Garner's son, Davin, pay for his mother's funeral and his sister Maileigh's medical bills. You can find that link here. 26-year-old arrested in hit and run on Minnesota Ave.
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO)– A Valley Springs man is expected to face several charges following a hit and run crash in central Sioux Falls. Report: 31 homicides statewide, up from 18 in 2023 According to police, an officer tried to stop a speeding S-U-V around 9:15 this morning on South Minnesota Avenue. Police say the driver kept going, ran a stop sign at 26th and Spring, crashed into a pickup and then ran off. Police caught up with him and made an arrest. 26-year-old Johnny Koenig, Jr. was booked into the Minnehaha County jail late this say he and the other driver have minor injuries following the crash.
