Tino's Pet Grooming to Open First-Of-Its-Kind Dog Grooming Apprenticeship Programs through U.S. Department of Labor
BRANDON, MS, UNITED STATES, May 13, 2025 / / -- Tino's Pet Grooming will launch Tino's Apprenticeship Program, a first-of-its-kind dog grooming apprenticeship through the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), on June 1st. Tino's Pet Grooming was registered by the DOL as part of the National Apprenticeship System in April, making this dog grooming apprenticeship one of the first of its kind in the nation. 'We are thrilled to launch Tino's Apprenticeship Program,' said Chandler May, co-founder of Tino's Pet Grooming. 'We already provide best-in-class services to our clients, and we're excited to teach others how to offer the same elevated standard of care. Receiving this unique certification through the Department of Labor will provide Tino's apprentices with a nationally-recognized accolade and better equip them to provide the highest standards of care for animals across Mississippi and the United States.' The two-year apprenticeship program will be based out of their Brandon location, and will cover all aspects of the grooming business from client consultations and relationship building to reception and dog anatomy. This paid apprenticeship will provide students with an entry wage that will increase throughout the program. Tino's Apprenticeship Program offers Mississippians a simple and cohesive path into the grooming industry while equipping them for future grooming jobs or even starting a grooming business of their own. Tino's Pet Grooming also recently received their American Kennel Club (AKC) S.A.F.E. (Safety, Assurance, Fundamentals, Education) certification in March, making them the first pet grooming business in Central Mississippi to bear this distinction. 'We realized there are very few apprenticeship programs for dog groomers in the United States that are registered through the DOL, and also very few AKC S.A.F.E. groomers in our area, so we decided to meet those needs in our community,' said Wayne Culipher, co-founder and groomer at Tino's Pet Grooming. 'Through these two initiatives, we now offer new groomers a cohesive program that will teach them the best industry techniques and help them start their grooming journey.' Powell police boosting traffic patrol
POWELL, Ohio (WCMH) — The city of Powell is working to enhance safety along the Sawmill Parkway corridor by launching a high-visibility traffic enforcement initiative called the S.A.F.E. (Sawmill Parkway Awareness and Focused Enforcement) Passage Initiative to increase visibility and build a culture of traffic safety. Powell Police Chief Ron Sallows said community awareness and public education is one of the main focuses behind the proactive approach. He wants the community to know the police department is responsive and listening to their complaints. New development denied at site of Pickaway County farmland The effort is being led by the Powell Police Department, which will target the stretch of Sawmill Parkway between Seldom Seen Road and Home Road. At 45 miles per hour, the area has the highest speed limit in the city and a history of serious traffic incidents. 'Through a community attitude survey last year, our community told us that they were they were concerned about this particular roadway,' Sallows said. According to Sallows, there have been two serious fatalities along the stretch within the last three years. 'The initiative is just not focused solely on speeding,' Sallows said. 'It's aggressive driving. It is distracted driving. It is making sure that we're out there and engaging our community to let them know when they're doing something or when their behavior is unsafe.' Ohio Supreme Court reinstates law banning trans healthcare for minors Sallows said the department will be stepping up its enforcement and visibility. Officers will proactively conduct traffic stops for speed and reckless driving violations. 'About a little over a year ago, we were about 25% of our patrol staff was out, had retired and left the force,' Sallows said. 'We have recently hired eight people over the last year. So, we have some additional resources that we haven't had in the past to dedicate to this.' The S.A.F.E. Passage Initiative will run over the next four months, beginning May 1. Focused operations will take place during major holiday weekends, including Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day to address seatbelt use, general traffic safety and impaired driving. 'We've got a Stealthstat device that actually measures the speed and the amount of traffic along this roadway,' Sallows said. 'So, we've done an assessment of that already and then periodically through this campaign, we'll reassess that roadway and will determine if we're having an effect on it.' Ohio University closing diversity offices, women and pride centers According to Sallows, data from citations and speed monitoring devices will be collected and analyzed, with monthly updates shared publicly to maintain transparency and accountability. 'We want you to get through the city of Powell safe,' Sallows said. The S.A.F.E. Passage Initiative will last through Labor Day. Powell police officers will work with the Delaware County Sheriff's Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol to extend enforcement along the full length of Sawmill Parkway. Baltimore healthcare group supports young victims of abuse, assault
Every year, the Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC) brings community members together for a powerful display of solidarity. GBMC's Walk a Mile in Their Shoes event aims to raise awareness and support for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. This year, the event will be held on Friday, April 11, at 4 p.m. Every month, GBMC's Child Protection Coordinator Danielle Nickles leads a support group session with teen girls in Maryland who have experienced sexual assault and abuse. "Girls are able to do some sort of art-based activity with their peers, knowing that these peers have gone through something similar to what they have been through, but they're not required to talk about anything, with the goal being support," Nickels said. The team calls itself The Safe Squad. "Safe, for them, stands for support, acceptance, friendship and empowerment," Nickels told WJZ. "So many of them have said this has been my escape, this is where I can get away from the real world," Nickels said. "They said they feel safe here, they felt heard here, and it's been life-changing for them." A study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that one in four girls and one in six boys will report experiencing sexual abuse in their childhood. A sobering and eye-opening statistic that local organizations like GBMC's S.A.F.E. and Domestic Violence Program are hoping to turn around. "So many of these abuses will go unreported and so that statistic is likely higher," Nickels said. "But the statistic overall, that equals out to overall about 1 in 10 children will experience sexual abuse before they turn 18." Support group therapy sessions like the one with GBMC help survivors continue their journey of healing. "Especially in adolescence, having that sense of friendship, sense of belonging with their peers, I mean that's critical throughout that time period, and throughout life," Nickels said Community support and fundraisers like GBMC's Walk a Mile in Their Shoes allow the S.A.F.E. Program to operate 24/7, 365 days a year, free of charge for patients. The event brings together people from all walks of life to raise awareness about sexual assault and domestic violence. "This group started with a community donor, so we're just really fortunate to have the community awareness about this group," Nickels said. "The knowledge of how important and how life-changing it is for so many of these girls." With continued support and resources, survivors can take steps toward healing and reclaiming their lives. "I've seen some of them go from where they've been critical and hospitalized because of their mental health and their trauma symptoms to now, they're about to graduate and a couple of them are talking about where their college options are," Nickels said. "So, I mean it really is– If I think about it too deeply, I will get emotional. It's beautiful." GBMC will hold its 10th annual Walk a Mile in Their Shoes event. Baltimore Ravens Coach John Harbaugh is the honorary chair of the event this year. If you or someone you know is a survivor of domestic violence or sexual assault, you can find resources at GBMC's website or by calling the national hotline at 1-888-373-7888.

( — A Vallejo resident was arrested after deputies seized over 120 terabytes of child sexual abuse material from their residence, according to the Solano County Sheriff's Office. The agency said it recovered the material on Feb. 20, as well as over 20 computers, a server, and multiple anti-forensic and 'hacking' tools. SCSO said its investigations bureau recently began conducting Internet Crimes Against Children cases with a full-time investigator. The agency added that this case stemmed from a previous S.A.F.E.
