Prayers, holy masses offered for Pope Francis
Prayers and holy masses were offered in the churches across Tirunelveli and Tenkasi districts on Monday following the demise of 88-year-old Pope Francis.
After Vatican formally declared the demise of the Pope, a portrait of the Pontiff was placed in front of the altar of St. Xavier's Cathedral in Palayamkottai, where the parishioners and the general public offered floral tributes. As a mark of respect, the bells were also sounded in all the churches.
Led by Bishop of Palayamkottai RC Diocese Most Rev. S. Antonysamy, the priests offered the condolence prayers and the Holy Mass at St. Xavier's Cathedral, Palayamkottai at 6 p.m. on Monday in memory of the Pope.
Since Pope Francis belonged to the Society of Jesus, the Jesuit priests administering good number of educational institutions including St. Xavier's College, St. Xavier's College of Education and St. Xavier's Higher Secondary School, all in Palayamkottai, will organise condolence prayers at Pope Francis Auditorium on the college premises at 12 noon on Tuesday.
'A fitting tribute in the form of prayers and the holy mass will be offered on the occasion,' said sources in the St. Xavier's Higher Secondary School.
