Collector inspects Primary Health Centre in Namakkal

Namakkal District Collector S. Uma held an inspection at the Yelur Primary Health Centre (PHC) in the district on Saturday. The Collector made a surprise inspection at the PHC in Yelur that comes under the Puduchatram panchayat union and verified the records of patients' arrival, treatment facilities, medicine availability, attendance of doctors and nurses, details of pregnant women registered at the PHC, and records of blood samples. The Collector also inspected the Outpatient (OP) ward and interacted with the people waiting in the OP ward and inpatients regarding the facilities provided to them. The Collector told the people at the PHC that treatment provided at PHCs and government hospitals was on a par with private hospitals, and that it was being provided free of cost under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme. Similarly, treatment is provided at government and private hospitals for accident victims under Innuyir Kappom Nammai Kakkum scheme. Later, in another function at Yelur, the Collector and Rajya Sabha member K.R.N. Rajeshkumar flagged off two buses on extended routes. The town bus from Tiruchengode to Periya Manali will now operate to Yelur PHC. Likewise, the Rasipuram-Yelur town bus has now been extended to Pudupatti Colony.

District Collector S. Uma on Friday urged the public to cooperate to make Namakkal, a drug-free district. The Collector participated in the awareness meeting for women's self-help group members on drug prevention and prohibition. Speaking at the meeting, the Collector said that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is making various efforts to make the society prosperous and safe by completely eradicating the sale and use of drugs. The main reason for selecting women in this programme is that if a programme is presented to women, they can take it home, village, and district-wide. Women are capable of doing such awareness drive. 'Women can be fully involved in drug prevention and put an end to such evil acts,' Ms. Uma added. Explaining the evils of drugs that cause harm to the society and family, the Collector said that if a person uses drugs, they engage in various criminal activities by losing their self consciousness and it turns into a social disorder. It affects the society at various levels like a chain link. This results in unsafe situations for children. Due to the continuous efforts of the district administration and the police department, inspections are conducted in various places and the sale of drugs has been banned. However, drug sellers adopt different ways for selling banned items. So, the public should inform the district administration if there is sale of drugs in their areas and the details of the informants will be kept confidential. The public can download the Drug Free Tamil Nadu app and report through it, the Collector added. Additional Superintendent of Police Dhanarasu, Project Director (Mahalir Thittam), and officials from various departments participated.

Over 32,000 people in Kolli Hills to be screened for hemoglobinopathy

Namakkal District Collector S. Uma said on Monday that 32,034 people in Kolli Hills will be screened for hemoglobinopathy. As part of the Tribal Health Programme, the Tamil Nadu Government undertakes hemoglobinopathy (specifically sickle cell anaemia and thalassemia) screening and provides treatment to those affected by hemoglobinopathy. In Namakkal district, the screening programme will be conducted in Kolli Hills for the next six months. The Collector said that in the fiscal year 2023-24, as many as 1,827 school students studying in Class VI to Plus Two and in 2024-25, 3,150 students were screened. From April 2022 to February 2025, 1,941 pregnant women were screened. ' In the next six months, from newborns to people aged below 40 (around 32,034 people residing in Kolli Hills) will be screened under this programme. Five teams, consisting of six members each, have been deployed for the purpose, the Collector added.
