Car drives into crowd celebrating PSG's Champions League final win
Four individuals, including two teenagers, were rushed to hospital after a car crashed into a crowd of fans celebrating PSG's Champions League victory. The horrifying incident occurred on Saturday on Cours Jean-Jaurés in Grenoble, France when the driver of a BMW 1 Series was driving along the central tramway tracks, heading towards Echirolles.
The BMW driver attempted a U-turn using the handbrake at the intersection of Avenue Alsace-Lorraine. He then ploughed into four pedestrians - two 17-year-old lads and two women, aged 23 and 46, all from the same family.
The young woman was reported to be the most severely injured and 'fighting for her life' after being hit first.
The driver reportedly abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene, fearing he would be attacked by the crowd. According to local reports, he turned himself in a few minutes later, and was arrested by police officers who immediately took him into custody.
Around 30 firefighters and a team from the emergency medical services (SAMU 38) were dispatched to the scene to assist the victims. The two women and one of the teenagers were critically injured, while the other teenager appeared to be less seriously injured, reports the Mirror.
All were treated and taken to the Grenoble Alpes University Hospital for further treatment.
Grenoble police officers had to secure the scene as hostile groups hurled stones and bottles in their direction. The police responded with tear gas grenades to force them back.
