Newsboy's tips from Friday's five meetings, including six races live on ITV
Newsboy is backing his Nap, Lead Artist. to win the Group 2 bet365 Mile at Sandown and he fancies Damysus to deliver in the bet365 Classic Trial, both on ITV
LEAD ARTIST is taken to hog the limelight in the Group 2 bet365 Mile (3.00, Nap) at Sandown on Friday. The John and Thady Gosden-trained son of Dubawi didn't race as a juvenile but made great strides at three in 2024. Successful in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Stakes at Glorious Goodwood in August, Kieran Shoemark's mount defied a penalty in the same-level Darley Stakes at Newmarket in October, and should have more to offer this season.
The Group 3 bet365 Classic Trial (3.35) assembles some promising three-year-olds, of whom the Gosdens' DAMYSUS is the pick.
Frankel's son justified 8-11 favouritism in style with a winning debut at Southwell in December, humbling Hidden Secret by two and a half lengths. Plenty of progress is required for Damysus to mix it in Pattern company but it's clear he has barely scratched beneath the surface.
Course winner ALMAQAM went under by just a head in the Group 2 Prix Dollar at Longchamp last October and a reproduction of that effort should suffice in the Group 3 bet365 Gordon Richards Stakes (2.25). Top weight DIVIDEND has won his last three outings on the all-weather but scored on turf at Sandown Park last June and can give his rivals weight and a beating in the bet365 Esher Cup Handicap (1.50). At Perth, BUSTY BOY is expected to thrive for the stamina test presented by the QuinnBet Highland National Handicap Chase (2.05), while HEARD THAT looks best in the Alastair Down Novices' Handicap Chase (2.40).
