The Science India Forum (SIF) Qatar, a prominent associate organisation of the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) operating under the patronage of the Embassy of India in Qatar, hosted its much-anticipated Annual Gala Awards Function 2025 with grandeur and enthusiasm at Birla Public School. The event marked a significant milestone in SIF's commitment to fostering scientific curiosity, innovation, and academic excellence among young minds in Qatar.
The evening was graced by a distinguished guest list. The chief guest, HE Vipul, the Ambassador of India to Qatar, was joined by guest of honor and keynote speaker Dr S Chandrasekhar, former director of CSIR-IICT (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – Indian Institute of Chemical Technology) and current advisor to PI Industries. Their presence underscored the event's importance and its alignment with India's vision of promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education globally.
In his inspiring keynote address, Dr. Chandrasekhar spoke about India's scientific legacy, the critical role of research and innovation in national development, and the need for cultivating scientific temper among students from an early age. Drawing from his vast experience in chemical sciences and research leadership, he encouraged the students to pursue scientific endeavors with curiosity, passion, and ethical responsibility.
Ambassador Vipul, in his inaugural address, shared his impressions after personally reviewing the top 10 science projects presented by students. He praised the originality, depth, and relevance of the ideas showcased, calling them 'proof of the immense untapped potential in our youth.' The ambassador also lauded SIF Qatar's continuous efforts in engaging students through well-structured competitions, workshops, and knowledge-sharing platforms that not only complement academic learning but also promote critical thinking and creativity.
The event witnessed a vibrant turnout of over 500 participants, including students, parents, educators, school principals, and dignitaries from across Qatar's academic and Indian community circles. The award ceremony recognized meritorious students who had excelled in various SIF activities conducted over the year, such as the Science India Fiesta, talent tests, innovation contests, and STEM quizzes. Their outstanding contributions in fields ranging from environmental science to AI and sustainable technologies were highlighted and honored with certificates, trophies, and accolades.
In his welcome address, the president of SIF Qatar extended warm greetings to the distinguished guests and provided a comprehensive overview of the forum's activities over the past year. These included inter-school science fairs, mentorship programs, online learning modules, and collaborations with reputed Indian scientific institutions.
The evening also included cultural interludes, student testimonials, and a short film chronicling SIF's journey and its impact on the academic ecosystem in Qatar. Many parents and teachers expressed appreciation for the platform that SIF provides, particularly its ability to seamlessly blend scientific learning with community engagement.
SIF Qatar expressed heartfelt gratitude to its volunteers, scientific mentors, teachers, and supporting institutions whose dedication and partnership made the event a resounding success.
