Posco Future M invests W436b for new anode material plant in Saemangeum
South Korean battery materials producer Posco Future M is set to build a spherical graphite manufacturing facility in Saemangeum, North Jeolla Province, as part of efforts to reduce dependence on China for anode materials. The company signed an agreement on Thursday with the Saemangeum Development and Investment Agency (SDIA), North Jeolla Province, Gunsan City and the Korea Rural Community Corporation to invest 436.1 billion won ($321.3 million) in the new facility, according to North Jeolla Province. The signing ceremony, held in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province, was attended by Posco Future M CEO Eom Gi-chen, North Jeolla Gov. Kim Kwan-young, SDIA Administrator Kim Kyung-ahn, Gunsan Mayor Kang Im-jun and other local officials. 'With this new facility, we aim to respond to increasingly protectionist trends in global supply chains and contribute to the competitiveness and growth of Korea's battery industry,' Eom said. Spherical graphite is refined natural graphite that reaches about 95 percent purity, then is further upgraded to over 99.9 percent for use in anode production. Upon completion in 2027, the plant will have an annual production capacity of 37,000 tons of spherical graphite, according to the company. Of the total investment, 277.3 billion won will be funded through a rights offering scheduled for July. The investment follows Posco Future M's board decision in April to localize the production of key battery materials. With China currently accounting for over 99 percent of the global supply of spherical graphite, Posco Future M is seeking to lessen its dependence on Chinese sources amid growing geopolitical risks and potential US restrictions on Chinese battery materials for electric vehicles.

Dynatrace Cost & Carbon Optimization App Receives SDIA Certification
Dynatrace announced that the Sustainable Digital Infrastructure Alliance (SDIA) has certified the Dynatrace Cost & Carbon Optimization app. The certification focused on Dynatrace's accuracy and transparency in calculating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and on-premises host instances. SDIA's certification supports the effectiveness and reliability of the Dynatrace Cost & Carbon Optimization app and demonstrates how Dynatrace can help customers achieve their sustainability goals. The SDIA report can be accessed here. The Cost & Carbon Optimization app delivers real-time insights into the costs and carbon footprint of an organization's hybrid and multicloud ecosystem, offering optimization recommendations detailing how to reduce both costs and environmental impact. Today, more than 25% of all hosts monitored by Dynatrace OneAgent are reporting their carbon footprint to the Cost & Carbon Optimization app, highlighting the broad interest in IT carbon emissions awareness and reduction. Max Schulze, CEO at SDIA, said, 'SDIA concludes that the Dynatrace Cost and Carbon Optimization app is a reliable estimation system for calculating the operational GHG emissions of IT infrastructure in cloud and on-premises environments. The calculations and methodology used are in line with the best available scientific approach, meeting relevant reporting requirements. Dynatrace meets our requirements for transparency, enabling customers to understand the calculations and to recreate the results for independent verification.' 'The Dynatrace Cost & Carbon Optimization app is a must-have for clients faced with evolving sustainability reporting requirements,' said Angelo Kaijser, Managing Director, Conclusion Xforce. 'The certification by SDIA validates the approach Dynatrace has taken to integrate IT carbon analytics into its observability platform. We're excited to work together with Dynatrace in supporting our clients.' Welcoming the holy month The mosque inauguration comes as part of SDIA preparations to welcome the holy month of Ramadan, as the department seeks to open 20 mosques with the advent of the holy month, distributed across the suburbs and cities of Sharjah. Urban renaissance The SDIA also aims to keep pace with the urban development and population increase in the Emirate, meet the needs of its residents and enable them to perform prayers with ease and comfort. This step comes within SDIA noble mission and its continuous efforts to translate the visions and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in harnessing all capabilities to provide a decent life for the residents of the Emirate, and constructing all facilities and services that would enhance stability and achieve comprehensive urban renaissance in the suburbs and cities of the Emirate. His Excellency Abdullah Khalifa Yarouf Al Sabousi, Chairman of SDIA, attended the inauguration accompanied by the donor to build the mosque, a number of officials, and the residents of the suburb, where the attendees performed the noon prayer, then listened to a sermon on the importance of building mosques, and their role in promoting Islamic values and preserving society. Modern architecture The attendees toured the mosque and listened to an explanation from the project implementers about its facilities, which were built according to a modern architectural style mixed with an Islamic character, with a main dome in the middle, and a 25-metre-high minaret on top. The construction of the mosque took into account the use of the best modern standards that contribute to preserving the environment, as it operates with modern systems to conserve energy and water consumption. The mosque was built on an area of 3062 square metres, which includes the prayer hall and its service facilities. The mosque's capacity is 400 worshipers, 70 of which are designated for the women's prayer hall.
