Tony Buzbee Files Motion To Dismiss JAY-Z's Malicious Prosecution Lawsuit Against Him
Tony Buzbee, the attorney who was once representing Diddy and his accusers, is now attempting to shut down a malicious prosecution lawsuit filed against him by JAY-Z — insisting that he had reached an 'agreement' that Jay allegedly 'reneged' on.
According to Hov's team, the two were never on one accord.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Buzbee submitted new legal documents Monday seeking to have JAY-Z's suit tossed out of an Alabama court. The lawsuit stems from a now-dismissed rape case brought by a Jane Doe, whom Buzbee represented, accusing JAY-Z and Sean 'Diddy' Combs of raping and assaulting her in 2000.
Jay, neé Shawn Carter, responded by suing both Doe and Buzbee in Alabama — where the accuser resides — arguing the case was a malicious and baseless smear attempt. But in his latest filing, Buzbee paints the picture that Jay 'weaponized' his celebrity status to coerce Doe into silence.
'Eventually, the relentless pressure that Mr. Carter and his associates placed upon Doe became too much for her,' Buzbee claims in the filing. 'On February 4, 2025, an agreement to resolve the litigation was reached between Doe and Mr. Carter, through their attorneys, which included the voluntary dismissal of the SDNY Action.'
Buzbee further argues that JAY-Z filed his lawsuit in the 'wrong court' and failed to provide a valid legal basis. Most notably, he alleges that there was an agreement in place — a deal he says was not honored. The Roc Nation boss' attorney, Alex Spiro, has shot back at the claim, stating: 'Total lie. He brought a false case, lost badly and was forced to dismiss quickly. End of story.'
Marc E. Kasowitz, who is apart of Buzbee's counsel, doubled down, offering a sharply different account of events. 'Spiro's statement that there was no agreement is a total fabrication,' he told TMZ. 'There was an exchange of emails between me and Spiro which set forth the agreement very clearly. As part of that agreement, Spiro agreed to withdraw the Rule 11 motions for sanctions that he had brought against Mr. Buzbee's law firm.'
'We agreed to withdraw the lawsuit that Jane Doe had brought for rape against JAY-Z and Mr. Combs even though Jane Doe continued to maintain that the allegations in that lawsuit were true, and JAY-Z and Spiro agreed not to send any more people to harass and intimidate Jane Doe and her family,' he continued. 'One week later, JAY-Z and his lawyer breached that agreement flagrantly by sending supposed investigators to harass and intimidate Jane Doe and her family.'
Spiro, however, acknowledged that Kasowitz had reached out to discuss dismissal, but said he made it clear JAY-Z 'would never settle the lawsuit or pay any money to resolve it, given it was a heinous false accusation.' Reportedly, Jane Doe voluntarily dismissed her case with prejudice — meaning the suit is legally prevented from being refiled. And in that dismissal, there is no mention of any deal or agreement with JAY-Z.
