SEDC initiatives align with Sarawak's development agenda, says chairman

KUCHING (April 25): The initiatives undertaken by the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) are closely aligned with the state's development goals, said its chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain.
Speaking at the inaugural SEDC Aidilfitri Open House held at a hotel here this afternoon, Abdul Aziz highlighted the corporation's long journey since its establishment on March 1, 1972.
'It spans from basic industries, housing, and real estate to strategic fields such as new energy, global investments, tourism, as well as the digital and green economy.
'All these initiatives are in line with our objective of supporting the state's development agenda under the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030,' he said during the inaugural SEDC Aidilfitri Open House event held at a hotel here this afternoon.
The event was graced by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Abdul Aziz also noted that SEDC's achievements are not measured solely by figures or assets, but by its social impact—particularly in providing job opportunities, skills training, entrepreneurship support, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes.
With this in mind, he said SEDC remains committed to playing a key role in realising the vision of a prosperous and advanced Sarawak to ensure that development is inclusive, sustainable, and focused on the well-being of the people
Meanwhile, guests were treated to a vibrant cultural showcase by dancers from the Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV), featuring their signature welcoming performance and the 'Tarian Nopeng'—a creative piece inspired by Gendang Melayu Sarawak, blending traditional drumming, pantun, and mukun in celebration of the 'Colours of Aidilfitri' theme.
A highlight of the celebration was the ceremonial cutting of the 'Kek Palak Meja'—a unique Sarawakian Hari Raya tradition.
