World's Largest Container Ship MSC IRINA To Dock At Vizhinjam Seaport
Ahmedabad: The MSC IRINA, recognised as the world's largest container ship by TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) capacity, is set to dock at the Adani Group's Vizhinjam International Seaport on Monday and will be berthed till Tuesday. The monumental arrival marks a significant milestone for the seaport, which was dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 2. The MSC IRINA boasts an impressive capacity of 24,346 TEUs, making it a formidable player in global shipping. With a length of 399.9 metres and a width of 61.3 metres, the vessel is approximately four times longer than a standard FIFA-designated football field. Designed specifically to facilitate the transportation of large volumes of containers between Asia and Europe, the MSC IRINA is pivotal in enhancing trade routes and logistics efficiency. This vessel will be making its maiden visit to a South Asian port, highlighting Vizhinjam's capabilities in handling Ultra-Large Container Vessels (ULCVs). The port, developed and operated by Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd, has recently welcomed other icon-class vessels, including MSC Turkiye and MSC Michel Cappellini, further establishing its reputation as a key hub in maritime trade. The MSC IRINA was launched in March 2023 and embarked on its maiden voyage in April of the same year. It sails under the Liberian flag and is engineered to stack containers up to 26 tiers high, offering unparalleled capacity in container stacking. Notably, the MSC IRINA surpasses its predecessor, OOCL Spain, by a margin of 150 TEUs. In alignment with contemporary environmental standards, the vessel is equipped with energy-saving features that contribute to a reduction in carbon emissions by up to 4 per cent, significantly lowering its carbon footprint while maintaining operational efficiency. The docking of the MSC IRINA at Vizhinjam International Seaport not only underscores the port's strategic importance in global shipping but also represents a leap forward in sustainable maritime practices, setting a benchmark for future developments in the industry.

'Symbol of new-age development': PM Modi inaugurates Rs 8,900cr Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala
Screengrab Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the Vizhinjam International Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport in Kerala. Speaking on the occasion, the Prime minister said, ""On one hand, there is this big sea with so many opportunities and on the other hand, there is beauty of nature, in between there is this 'Vizhinjam International Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport', which is a symbol of new-age development. " Built under a public-private partnership by Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd , the Rs 8,867-crore Vizhinjam project is India's first dedicated deep-water transshipment port. Strategically positioned near key global shipping lanes and powered by semi-automated, AI-enabled systems, the port is designed to reclaim a large portion of India's outbound cargo that is currently routed through foreign ports. PM Modi also used the occasion to attack the opposition saying, ""I want to say this to the CM (Pinarayi Vijayan)... you are a strong pillar of INDI alliance. (Congress MP) Shashi Tharoor is also sitting here. Today's event will give sleepless nights to several people. He (translator) could not (translate these line)... but the message has gone where it had to." Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan earlier extended gratitude to the PM on behalf of the people of the state to dedicate the landmark project to the nation. "On behalf of the people of Kerala, I once again express our sincere gratitude to the Prime Minister for visiting our state to dedicate the landmark project to the nation. Shanghai Consul General Pratik Mathur Meets Karan Adani, Discusses Key Growth Areas
New Delhi: India's Consul General of India in Shanghai, Pratik Mathur, on Tuesday met Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd (APSEZ) Managing Director Karan Adani and discussed growth prospects for the logistics and connectivity sectors, along with touching upon the economic situation in the region. Mr Mathur, who served as Minister (Political) at India's Mission to the United Nations in New York, assumed charge as the Consulate General of India in Shanghai in January this year. In a post on the social media platform X, the Consul General said that Indian companies are going global. His previous assignments included postings in the Indian embassies in Washington, DC, and Beijing. Meanwhile, the Board of Directors of Adani Ports last week approved the acquisition of Abbot Point Port Holdings Pte Ltd (APPH), Singapore, from Carmichael Rail and Port Singapore Holdings Pte Ltd, Singapore (CRPSHPL), which is a related party. APPH holds the entities which own and operate the North Queensland Export Terminal (NQXT) - a dedicated export terminal with a current nameplate capacity of 50 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). The transaction will further enhance the APSEZ's global transport and logistics footprint and fast-track its journey to handle 1 billion tonnes per annum by 2030. Earlier this month, Karan Adani said the opening of the Colombo West International Terminal (CWIT) in Sri Lanka will create thousands of jobs locally. Adani Ports has commenced operations at the terminal located at the Port of Colombo. The CWIT project represents a significant investment of $800 million and features a 1,400-metre quay length and 20-metre depth, enabling the terminal to handle approximately 3.2 million Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) annually.
