Surat hospital evacuates 12 patients after fire scare
Surat: A smoke incident at Metas Adventist Hospital in Surat prompted a swift response from the Surat Fire and Emergency Services (SFES) on Tuesday evening. The hospital evacuated around 12 patients from the ground floor to nearby facilities before the fire brigade arrived. No casualties were to SFES officials, the smoke originated from a storeroom on the ground floor that housed hospital equipment. While initial fears pointed to a fire, it was found that the situation had been brought under control by the hospital's own emergency response team, who used fire extinguishers and water spray before the SFES team reached the site."There was heavy smoke in the storeroom, but no active fire was found. Preliminary firefighting was effectively handled by the hospital staff," an SFES official equipped with Breathing Apparatus Sets (BAS) entered the building to clear the smoke. Windows and ventilators were opened to help disperse it. Officials suspect a short circuit may have triggered the least 10 fire vehicles were deployed as a precautionary measure. "The smoke had accumulated but didn't spread further, likely due to limited oxygen in the room," said an SFES official, adding that the timely evacuation and quick response helped avert a larger crisis.
