Traffic impacted by heavy rain, flooding in southwest Missouri
SOUTHWEST MISSOURI — Heavy rains and flooding are impacting traffic in the Ozarks today. Ozarks Traffic says the left and right lanes are closed at E. Chestnut Expressway and N. Patterson Ave. in Springfield due to flooding. Across the southwest portion of the state, the Missouri Department of Transportation's Traveler Information Map shows several road closures due to flooding, including the following: Route CC near Fair Grove Route B north of Rogersville Route PP west of Fordland Mo. 125 west of Rogersville Route A west of Diggins Route Z south of Fordland Route Y west of Ava Route U northeast of Ava Mo. 95 north of Gainesville Route PP east of Gainesville Mo. 142 in Bakersfield Route K west of West Plains Mo. 76 east of Taneyville To see exactly where roads are closed across southwest Missouri, check out the MoDOT Traveler Information Map. The Springfield-Greene County Office of Emergency Management (SG-OEM) said earlier that over the last several hours of heavy flooding rain, water rescues are popping up across southwest Missouri. 'Never drive through a flooded roadway,' the SG-OEM said in a social media post. 'It only takes six to twelve inches of running water to pick up a vehicle.' According to the National Weather Service, the following counties are in severe flood warning until 8 p.m.: Christian, Dade, Douglas, Greene, Ozark, Polk, Taney, Webster and Wright. Additionally, Barry County, Cedar County and Dade County are currently in severe flash flood warning. Home repair aid is available for low-income seniors in Greene County after severe storms
GREENE COUNTY, Mo. — The Springfield-Greene County Office of Emergency Management (SG-OEM) is informing residents of a resource designed to help low-income seniors following recent storm damage. According to a SG-OEM news release, the USDA Home Repair Program is a federal program that provides grants and low-interest loans to qualifying homeowners for essential repairs. Those repairs include emergency tree removal, roof and structural improvements, electrical repairs and accessibility upgrades. The Section 504 Home Repair Program offers financial assistance to help very low-income seniors (62 or older) address critical safety concerns following recent storm damage. This applies to rural areas with populations less than 20,000 people within Greene County or areas up to 35,000 population that were 'rural' before Oct. 1, 1990, which does not include homes in Springfield city limits. Homeowners can check address eligibility using USDA's online map. Grant Option Who qualifies? Homeowners aged 62 or older, living in their home, with household income at or below 50% of the Area Median Income (AMI) and unable to repay a loan. Grant amount: Up to $10,000 (no repayment required unless the home is sold within 3 years.) Covered repairs: Includes emergency tree removal, roof and structural repairs, electrical fixes, and safety improvements for accessibility. Loan option: For those who don't qualify for the grant, low-interest loans of up to $40,000 are available at 1% interest over 20 years. This provides a flexible alternative for home repairs for those ineligible for the grant. How to apply: Submit forms and proof of income. USDA will inspect the home, and if approved, issue a 'Notice to Proceed' before work begins. Payments are made directly to the contractor after a final inspection.
