In a shocking incident in Bihar's Sitamarhi district, a Station House Officer and a Bihar Military Police (BMP) jawan were assaulted in Nepal while investigating a stolen bike. The two police personnel, SHO Ravikant Kumar and BMP constable Mukesh Kumar who went to Nepal without permission, were surrounded and beaten with sticks by locals.
The situation escalated until the Nepal Police intervened, rescuing and hospitalising the injured officers. SHO Kumar is now in Jaleshwar Hospital, Nepal, while BMP constable Mukesh Kumar is receiving treatment at the district hospital in Sitamarhi.
Following the incident, SP Amit Ranjan suspended SHO Kumar and the involved policemen with immediate effect for crossing the border without informing senior officers. Pupri SDPO has been tasked with investigating the matter.
A team from Bhitthamod police station was attacked while acting on intelligence that stolen Indian motorcycles were being used to smuggle liquor in Jaleshwar, Nepal. On Wednesday night, plainclothes officers entered Parsa Pateli village development committee in Ward No. 5 of Jaleshwar Nagar Palika. While questioning locals, the team was suddenly attacked by a mob.
SHO Kumar sustained serious injuries to his head, nose, and hand, while Constable Mukesh Kumar was also badly injured. Several other policemen received minor injuries. The crowd, unaware they were Indian policemen due to their lack of uniform, refused to recognize them as law enforcement.
This unauthorised cross-border action, carried out without informing senior officers, violated protocol and risked sparking an international incident. In response, the Bihar Police administration has made it clear that such negligence will not be tolerated.
